Hestor

Hestor is a dhampir, born of the union between a vampire lord father and human mother. Despite being unwanted, he was never unloved. His mother raised him with warmth and kindness, teaching Hestor how to manage his vampiric urges until her untimely passing.

His mother's death broke Hestor, and he temporarily succumbed to his cravings. This in turn provoked his fellow vilagers, who hunted him and drove him into the forest. Hestor lived in the wild for almost a decade, getting his hunger back under control and secretly feeding from – but never killing – farm animals dotted across the land.

One day, an observant farmer caught him. Instead of killing Hestor, she offered him work in return for food and shelter. This fateful meeting was how he met the love of his life and now-wife Vanya, and the two continue to run a wool farm together.

[BACKGROUND]

Hestor’s mother, Philomena, was a middle-class woman and ony daughter to her parents' seven other sons. She was beloved by everyone in the town of Rowley for her incredible beauty and kindness. One day, a mysterious and reclusive nobleman moved into the manor that had sat unoccupied on the outskirts for almost a decade. It was not long after his arrival that young women from the area began to go missing. The townsfolk were skeptical at first, but after several months of disappearances, their suspicions of the new tenant became too much to ignore. When Philomena became the next to be abducted, they were sent into an uproar.

The imprisoned maidens quickly learned that their captor was a vampire. He enjoyed the pure, unspoiled taste of virgin blood, and wished to feed on the less attractive women, keeping the ones he deemed more beautiful as his thralls. However, he was quickly enamoured by Philomena above all others, and could not resist forcing himself upon her. Meanwhile, a travelling vampire hunter had caught wind of the incident, and offered his services to the townspeople. They were quick to agree, and it was not long before the abomination had been slain and the young women freed.

However, after few weeks after returning home, Philomena discovered that she was pregnant. Her parents were distraught, urging Philomena to terminate the vampire spawn. Yet she could not bring herself to do so, despite what she’d been through – Philomena had a gentle and sympathetic heart, and would not allow her unborn child to be defined by his heritage. She believed that they could be raised with kindness; and as a half-vampire, would be able to live a fairly normal life with the right guidance. Unfortunately, her family did not share this belief. When the child, whom she named Hestor, was finally born, their father waited until Philomena succumbed to her weariness. He stole Hestor away from his crib and plunged the infant into a tub of water, hoping to free his daughter from her suffering. However, a sudden pang of dread jolted Philomena awake, and she interrupted the murder attempt just in time. Realising that Hestor would never be safe in her family home, Philomena gathered as many of her belongings as she could carry. She snuck herself and Hestor away from the house, stowing away in the back of a merchant’s cart and fleeing to a small, far-away village.

[CHILDHOOD]

Renting a small cottage in the village of Bleake, Philomena raised Hestor. The villagers gossiped about the arrival of such a beautiful, mysterious young woman, and quickly uncovered who she was (though the rumours just said that her family kicked her out) and what her son was. Perhaps because of her beauty, they were more pitying of her than anything else - a few of the townsfolk brought Philomena food or offered small deeds to help, but as she initially kept to herself, they didn't further involve themselves.

• Hestor is a real homebody, and has picked up a lot of fashion-related hobbies - including clothesmaking, knitting, jewelrymaking and embroidering - after learning seamstressing skills from his mother.
• He loves to take obscenely long baths, always with the addition of bath bombs, oils and fragrances - his favourite scent is lavender, and he always stocks up his supplies when in the city.
