Jin Etsuji became an underground hit after his first live performance at the age of eleven in the now famous New Beginnings nightclub. After bringing in rave reviews in his various club appearances that dotted the beginning of his career, he reached international acclaim when he did his first New Years variety show that broke ratings across Japan, even surpassing Kohaku Uta Gassen for the first time in decades!
Since then, he’s become a hit, making multiple regular appearances on weekly comedy shows with his style of humorous storytelling, putting a hilarious spin on the woes of everyday life. His popularity has even spread overseas, culminating in a visit to New York last year where he guest starred for an ABC channel Christmas special. While he has reached a height of popularity, controversy has arisen over his style of humor, which is often seen by critics as overly cynical and too opinionated to deserve mainstream attention. There has also been the topic of his identity, as Jin has taken great lengths to hide his personal life from the public, drawing more attention with each passing day.
