Student's Dragons are yet to receive their role within Scalehaven.
Amazon - Maz - and Zerina found Aethyros in pretty bad shape as a young dragon, dehydrated and generally just exhausted in general - no major physical injuries, but clearly he'd been abandoned too young by his mother and was struggling to gain his strength. Whenever returning to the village to tell the adults, Zerina's dad said something about how proud he'd be of any kid who looked after the dragon until he was strong enough to gain his strength once more. Zerina, who already had a shit ton on her plate from trying to impress her family, instantly volunteers herself to sit with him multiple hours a day and nurse him back to health... But she just didn't have the time. So whenever they were alone, Zerina begged Maz to do it for her - that she'd do *anything* she wanted in return and promised that whenever they were older she could tell everybody that Maz helped the dragon and *not* Zerina, and was saying how her dad promised she start a section of dragon rider training reserved for teens early if she kept up the good work - and after a lot of negotiating and promises and begging, Maz agreed. She sat with Aethyros for hours on end, reading him stories and talking to him until he was strong enough to walk around - which is when they went exploring in the forests together. As he gained his strength back, their connection grew exponentially. Nowadays, Maz still hasn't told anybody that *she* helped Aethyros, despite Zerina saying she *could*. She's fine with the confused whispers on why 'Aethryos chose *Amazon* over *Zerina* as a rider', and the meaner ones of 'there must be a few screws loose in the poor guy's head if he picked *Amazon* over *Zerina*'. She doesn't really care all that much, because she and Zerina both know who earned Aethyros' trust out of the two... there's no bitter feelings at all there. Maz is grateful to Zerina for the chance to have helped Aethyros, in fact.
Aethyros is a dumbass, lovingly. He's not actually stupid, but you wouldn't know it from the way he acts. He's got the energy of a Great Dane puppy who hasn't quite figured out what to do with all of his big long legs and paws - or figured out that he's too big to be a lap dragon. Although, if you were to tell him he *couldn't* sit on Maz for mandatory snuggle time, he wouldn't believe you. He loves flying around, especially over water and through fog. You'd think he'd avoid those things as a feathered dragon, but he seems to bask in the mist and the water droplets. He loves insects to the point where he will refuse to move if he spots one. He will stare at it. For hours. His head will move millimetre by millimetre *completely* locked on this tiny insect until Maz finally manages to push him away like some boulder. She has had to roll him before. It's that bad.
But, of course, he is one of the best fighters and flyers in the adult class when it comes down to it. Constantly battling with Maz by his side to become the classes' top student, her childhood friend Zerina as her friendly rival, the two have pulled off some impressive stunts in the past. Despite being students, Zerina and Maz are often called into the highest ranks as emergency bodies when the time calls. Aethyros has a killer aim with his plasma blasts and speed that some of the Dragon Olympics Racers envy.
