"I'm feeling more motivated than usual today. Weird."
― Franziska

Franziska (フランツィスカ, Furantsu~isuka), is a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening

Profile

Franziska is a Valkyrie hailing from Valm, who initially appears as an enemy combatant aligned with the forces of Walhart and the Valmese Empire. However, she expresses little personal loyalty to his cause. If spoken to by Chrom during Chapter 12, she can be recruited into the Shepherds.

Born to a family of low-ranking retainers in a quiet and coastal Valmese territory, Franziska showed little interest in noble responsibilities from an early age. She was widely regarded as strange, inattentive and unmotivated, often neglecting her duties in favor of idle daydreaming. Despite this, she occasionally displayed an uncanny perceptiveness, making observations and offhand remarks about events or behaviors that would later prove to be accurate.

One day, her strange knack of perceptiveness turned into a genuine skill during a sudden bandit attack on her family’s estate. Finding herself abruptly awoken from a nap during the chaos, Franziska instinctively took up a staff and tome to help fend off the assailants in order to get the whole affair over with quicker. It was as though she could anticipate enemy movements and respond before threats fully materialized, making her able to perform timely healing and precise magical attacks. After the dust had settled, and much to her dismay, this display of competence resulted in her receiving even more responsibilities.

Attempts were made to formally train Franziska as a tactician to capitalize on her abilities, but inevitably proved largely ineffective due to her poor attention span and lack of discipline. Though her combat skills were indeed a surprising sight to behold, she would still often stray away only to be found staring at clouds, or laying in odd places. At some point, tiring of the hectic lifestyle and expectations thrust upon her, she left her family’s estate on horseback without a word to begin a life of idle wandering.

Soon after, Walhart the Conqueror began hearing reports of a young, talented mage on horseback who had happened to keep finding herself in the middle of several skirmishes around Valm. As he was building his army for his conquest of the Valmese continent, he found Franziska and subsequently threatened her to join his cause, not necessarily giving her a choice in the matter. She begrudgingly and unenthusiastically remains a part of his army until encountering Chrom and the Shepherds, where she joins them with little convincing at the prospect of not having to lose her head.

Paralogue

In the future, Franziska can become a mother if she achieves an S-Support with one of her allies, resulting in her giving birth to a son, Sonny. If she supports Robin in this manner, she also becomes the mother of Morgan.

In Paralogue 6-7, While traveling, the Shepherds come across a ruined settlement that appears recently disturbed. Scattered across the area are odd, seemingly random objects such as trinkets, broken tools, and scraps of cloth carefully arranged in small piles. Franziska idly remarks that the arrangement of items “feel intentional,” though she cannot explain why. As the group investigates, they are ambushed by Risen. In the middle of the chaos stands a young man picking through debris, seemingly more interested in what he can salvage than the battle itself.

Once the risen have successfully been dispatched by the Shepherds, the young man identifies himself as Sonny, Franziska's future son, and explains that he had been looking for his mother's ring that had gotten lost in the debris after being ambushed by Risen. Though all of the random items had actually been a part of his personal collection, the ring was his most valued possession. Franziska believes him instantly, but does not express much shock, only saying that he "feels like hers" with a subtle smile. Though this might have seemed like an underwhelming reaction to most people, Sonny understands Franziska's odd personality and is nonetheless happy to see her again.

According to Sonny's supports with Franziska, his mother was just as listless and prone to daydreaming in the future, but still never missed the things that mattered. Though, he did have to rely on his father to keep him entertained most of the time, as Franziska remained a fairly idle person with a lack of interest in doing most things. But she had a keen perception for anything Sonny needed or wanted, and was always quick to protect him. So much so, that she died that way. He worries that her easily-distracted personality will cause him to lose her again.

Personality

Franziska is characterized by her indolent and absent-minded disposition. She often appears disengaged from her surroundings, frequently drifting into daydreams and losing track of conversations. This tendency contributes to her reputation as boring or strange, as she rarely expresses strong opinions or outward enthusiasm. Her hobbies consist of wandering off to stare at the sky and generally enjoying any quietness. However, she does express a more open fondness for her horse, Maury, and eventually her husband and future child(ren).

Despite her apparent indifference to most things, Franziska possesses a subtle attentiveness that allows her to perceive details others overlook. She occasionally makes vague or cryptic observations that prove unexpectedly accurate, suggesting an intuitive understanding of people and events. Whether this is the result of heightened perception or something more extraordinary remains unclear. Either way, her strange knack of perceptiveness makes her more intelligent than she appears.

Socially, Franziska is awkward but very well-meaning. She makes genuine, if unconventional, attempts to connect with others, often struggling to communicate her thoughts clearly. Her demeanor can come across as detached, or odd, though she demonstrates quiet empathy in her interactions. As she gets to know the people around her more, her interest in them and care does become more apparent. As for most of her life she has been misunderstood, or rather, nobody really even attempted to understand her, she does do her best to offer that courtesy to others.

In combat, Franziska exhibits a marked contrast to her usual behavior. While typically unfocused, she becomes instinctively precise during battle, reacting to threats with surprising efficiency. Her fighting style appears unstructured, relying more on intuition than conscious strategy. She of course, would rather not be on the battlefield, but she does feel as though she should at least be useful.

Franziska and Virion

Virion returned home to Rosanne, where he was labeled a traitor and a coward, or else ignored entirely. But his wife, Franziska, shared some surprisingly convincing insights that did much to bring him back into good standing among his people.

Franziska and Stahl

Stahl continued his service as an Ylissean knight and led crucial missions across the realm. His scatterbrained nature alongside Franziska's absent-minded tendencies led to a somewhat disorderly but nonetheless easygoing and happy life together.

Franziska and Vaike

Vaike returned to the streets that raised him and was welcomed as a hero and brother to all. He lived out his days with Franziska, who still managed to find a way to enjoy an idle lifestyle despite the town's wild and woolly nature.

Franziska and Kellam

Franziska set off on her horse to finally continue a quiet life of wandering. However, she still ended up having to get herself out of many chaotic situations along the way. Her husband's name has been lost to history.

Franziska and Donnel

Donnel returned to his tiny village and built a happy life with his mother and his wife, Franziska. She quickly came to find the tranquil atmosphere of the vast fields and mountains that surrounded the farm to be perfect for endless daydreaming.

Franziska and Lon'qu

Franziska and Ricken

While continuing to study magic, Ricken realized how childish some of his actions had been. He and Franziska sought to grow as people, and they lived a tranquil yet productive life together.

Franziska and Gaius

Gaius never lost his sweet tooth, though he ultimately returned to less savory enterprises. Franziska nonetheless quietly supported her husband's work from behind the scenes, using her uncanny perceptiveness to assist with jobs at a minimal effort.

Franziska and Gregor

After the war, Gregor briefly sank into a life of excess, but when Franziska decided to set off and pursue a life of humble wandering, her husband eagerly joined her side to ensure she would not run into the chaos she always seemed to encounter.

Franziska and Libra

Many an unfortunate child found joy in the small orphanage Libra and his wife built after the war. The children loved Libra like a mother, and relentlessly attempted to get Franziska to be a little less boring.
