Quiet and unassuming, Asphodelpaw often fades into the background of conversations, content to sit and observe others rather than participate himself. He is highly intelligent and excellent at noticing patterns and memorization. He is a hard worker and can pour hours and hours of work into a singular task to make sure that it's done perfectly. He's a perfectionist and gets frustrated when things are not done properly. Unbothered by gore and death, he emits an eerieness that makes other cats rather wary of him. He has a fascination with death and how it occurs and how it can be prevented. He does not keep close companions and prefers to work alone, as others tend to bother him, though there might be some exceptions to this. He is as harsh on himself as he is to others. Sometimes he can be seen talking to himself - it's a habit that he uses to think outloud and debate with himself.

After the murder of the AbyssClan leader by Maggotfur, the tom gathered a group of followers and formed his own Clan - VesperClan. Asphodelpaw's mother followed him there, but his father stayed behind. She birthed her kits, Asphodelkit, Lionkit, and Maplekit. The four of them did their best to survive in a new territory, untamed, and constantly threatened by predators. Lionkit was weak and sickly from birth and did not survive the first few months. Asphodelkit was the one to discover his brother, mewling weakly in their den. Asphodelkit pawed at him and pressed his ear to his brother's chest. He listened as his brother's breaths became slower and slower, until the last one rattled in his throat. Instead of horror, Asphodelkit felt a fascination come over him. Just what was it that made death possible? Why was breathing linked to life? These questions stirred in the depths of his young mind, festering, until he became aware of apprenticeship. He learned that instead of becoming a warrior, he could become a medicine cat and therefore learn the ways to fight death and sickness. From then on, he spent most of his time trailing the medicine cat, trying to learn as much as possible.

When the day finally came for his apprenticeship, it came with more dramatics than usual. His father made an appearance that day, demanding that his family return to AbyssClan, where they belonged. Neither Asphodelkit nor Maplekit were aware that their mother had belonged to a different Clan. She had hoped to leave her past behind. She told Pikefur that he could stay or leave, but she was staying in VesperClan. Pikefur decided to try to stay in VesperClan. Asphodelpaw was apprenticed to the VesperClan medicine cat (needs a name) and Maplepaw was apprenticed to a warrior (needs a name). However, this arrangement lasted only a moon. Pikefur could not adjust to the different culture and he missed his friends and other family in AbyssClan. He decided to leave VesperClan then and pleaded one more time for Morningfoot and their children to come with him.

Maplepaw had taken the revelation a lot harder than her brother had and decided to leave VesperClan to go with her father. Asphodelpaw watched her go, unsure how to feel at his sister's departure. Instead of focusing on her loss, he plunged himself deeper into his medicine cat duties, hoping to ignore how his family had been torn in two.
