Worldbuilding info:

From a small village between the mountains and the dense forests. They spent many years isolated from other towns after a mysterious beast claimed the mountain pass for itself, attacking and killing anyone who crossed it's path. Eventually they made a longer route around the mountain pass, but through the forest that had a reputation of being enchanted in a bad way.

Traders still visited, and select hunters came to brave the forest for the abundance of wildlife. Majority of them disappeared without a trace, only lending to the Forest's reputation.

Prologue

Once there was a woman who lived in the forest... She married a hunter who moved in from a larger city, and together they wished for nothing more than to have a family of their own. They lived together for years in the forest, but despite her best efforts she couldn't seem to conceive. Her husband left her, not willing to give up on having his own family, and she was alone... She wandered deep into the forest, pleading for someone, anyone, to hear her prayers of a child. Much to her surprise something did reply... the winds seemed to whisper a promise as they whistled through the branches. Though there was no voice, she understood that the forest was willing to grant her the wish she wanted so dearly... but not for free.
She accepted the deal and gave birth to a healthy baby boy the next year.

It was all she could have ever wanted.. Her son, Fenrir, grew up with her in the forest for years. The two lived alone in the woods, getting by with minimal contact with the nearby townsfolk.

When he was still young, his mother started to grow weaker and weaker... The forest was taking it's part of the deal...

Fenrir started venturing into town more as his mother got weaker and weaker, unable to do so herself. He would go into town to sell the furs they'd collected, and heard the strange rumors about his mother.

Stories of her being a witch- that she must be using dark magic to survive in the forest all by her lonesome with only a child! Surely no sane woman would isolate herself like that unless she had something to hide... He refused to believe them though, believing his mother would never do such things!
One day he confronted her about the rumors, and she confessed how she's been gifted with him all those years ago. She told him that they both belonged to the forest, and to the forest they had to stay loyal.

She died a few years later, and he was left to take care of the home by himself. As expected, people were wary of the witch's son. He kept his distance, but couldn't help but wish he could connect to the people of the village. Life was lonesome and he hated to admit it, but he was tired of being alone. His chance to win the people's favor came when rumors of a large black beast with an arrow riddled pelt started circling the town. Rumor said it came from the mountains, and none who'd tried had been able to slay the beast...

If he could kill the beast, the people would have no choice but to welcome him. The forest whispered to him that if he took his sword to the north-most cave before the mountains and washed his blade in the waters within, his sword would rend through the beast's flesh. With his enchanted sword in hand he took on the beast, slaying it after a long and tedious battle. No man had been able to slay the beast before, the child of the forest could. He brought the beast's pelt back with him to show what he'd done, and for a short period the people rejoiced. Finally it seemed he had a place and was welcomed with open arms.

It was not to last and eventually suspicion turned on him once more. How could a boy from the middle of nowhere succeed where heroes before him had failed? Rumors of Fenrir using dark magics to aide him spread, eventually reaching the word of the church. While his presence had once been rejoiced, people had gone back to whispering behind his back and locking their doors as he passed.

Eventually he grew tired of the constant distrust and returned back to the forest he belonged to. What better home for the favored child than in the arms of the wild...?

Current

Fenrir lived alone in the forest for many years, until he came across an exhausted traveler with nothing on him. He found out the man had run away from his own village and allowed him to stay with him until he recovered enough to set out again. He learned the man's name was Magos and the two got along well, quickly becoming friends. Eventually Fenrir invited Magos to stay in the forest with him if he didn't want to go back to a village, and he agreed. The two lived together for three long years, eventually growing to have romantic feelings for one another. They would never get the chance to voice how they felt, as on the fourth winter the snow came early, and the harvests had been poor through the summer around the same times hunters had spotted Fenrir in the woods and reported the sightings to the Church. They sent out a hunting party to slay Fenrir. He and Magos did their best, but Fenrir was still mortally wounded in the fight, dying moments later in Magos's arms.

Magos swore his vengeance, embracing dark magics and diving headlong into the art of Necromancy. With the help of one of the Church's stone artifacts to give him intense abilities he eventually managed to raise Fenrir from the dead. He tried to erase Fenrir's memories of him so he could continue his mission for revenge while Fenrir lived happily in the woods once more, but he managed to flee before Magos got the chance.

He's sworn to undo the corruption the magic has wrong on Magos and bring him back to his senses. He's joined forces with Sigrid and AesirAesir to stop the corruption Magos unleashed upon the world with his magic. Â
