NOTE: I just completed the first expansion, forgive me if this doesn't make sense from a canonical perspective.

Lived within the mountains of Coerthas with a twin brother Nixetnox (Mysteek being the younger of the two) and his mother Vivaldia. Father skipped out shortly after Mysteek was born. When the two sons were older, Nixetnox went out to get revenge for the abandonment and strain that it caused on the family- and then the Calamity hit. Mysteek and his mother assumed the worst had come to pass to Nix. Not only that, but the Calamity's wrath had caused Vivaldia to fall gravely ill. Mysteek's white pelt was coloured green as he awoke to his healing magic that at least kept Vi alive. Mysteek would go on to work towards aiding and attempting to help cure his mother of the calamitous disease that ailed her. 

Whilst Mysteek went on a trip to try and gather ingredients, a blizzard had struck the land and made it difficult to traverse- making his trip take far longer than expected. In that time, Nixetnox returned to the family home as a corrupted shell of himself- and proceeded to torture Vivaldia. As Mysteek returned and the blizzard still ravaged the land, he was put under attack by an unknown assailant (Nix). He'd defend himself and run for his home, not realizing the person he just fended off against that would pass in the cold was his lost twin brother. Upon returning home, though... Vivaldia would be horrified of Mysteek's presence. She couldn't look at him without panicking or worse. This made the ability to treat her nigh impossible to do, and though Mysteek tried through the wails and shrieks, it was to no avail. 

With Vi's passing, Mysteek would remain in the snowy depths by his lonesome until spurred by the horrors of his failures to act- along with some encouragement from his newly-summoned Carbuncle. If he can harness his powers and improve them- if he can find a way to make a difference in the world post-Calamity... then perhaps he can make up for the sins of his failings. It's with this motivation, and some nervous help from the locals, that Mysteek seeks out transport to Limsa Lominsa to start again as a student, not a son.
