"I'm going to be in the ceremony too."

"Oh. You're just as doomed as I am."

"Yeah..."

They walked in silence for a moment, the zemi fretting over the truth she had spilled and the human taking in his companion's situation. A pure white zemi wouldn't survive one round of the ceremony, even if she was badass.

Kite finally broke the silence. "You know, I could use a distraction as well."

He looked up at the zemi, a little frightened. What on earth could she possibly follow that with?

Kite glanced sideways down at him. "What would you say to one last adventure?"

"...What kind of adventure?"

~

Icarus held on for dear life as the zemi galloped at full speed across the mountain side, his fingers tangled in her mane and a half crazed grinn on his face. The rhythm of her foot fall ran through him like the tempo of a song, keeping his movment in time and his balance perfect. He knew every stride and every turn before it happened, yet he had no control whatsoever. It was enthralling.

"Faster?" She called over her shoulder.

"YES!" Icarus shouted back, his breath too short for a more elaborate response.

The beast threw herself into hyperdrive. Kite wasn't supposed to have magic, but there was no earthly way her paws could have reached such a speed. Icarus found himself laughing like a little kid on a hay ride.

"Are you okay?"

"This is awesome!"
