Kelpie

"???"

— ?? to ??

The great-granddaughter of the infamous League rogue "Dante" and his mate, the Vice "Mayfair", Kelpie comes from a vast intertwined family with many connections within the group itself. As a result, she approaches most cats as if they're but another friendly face, be it actual family members and not. The violence the League has suffered priming her to seek a peaceful solution to their problems: by becoming a Diplomat.

Despite sharing her father's Division, Kelpie was largely naive to the threats the Haven poses...After all, she's made friends from that very Faction. They can't possibly be a part of the same group of cats who just tried to wipe out the League, forcing them out of their homes, could they? As one who has tried Diplomatic efforts, and was by proxy kept safe from their devious schemes, doesn't this implicate her too in their crimes? An unwitting participant to her own family's downfall?

Relationship Opportunities:

  • Friends: Kelpie is a allover friendly cat. It's hard to imagine her not having friends in the League, considering she sees everyone there as a big happy family. But what about beyond? As a Diplomat she's especially keen to befriend other clans, including hostile ones like Stoneclan... and enemies like the Haven.
  • Enemies: Less enemies and more "bad cats" in Kelpie's eyes, or simply cats who feel wronged by her. Her meddlesome and petty personality traits would especially come into play as to why someone might now be "enemies" with her.
  • Crush Rebound: Kelpie has a crush on Brackenpaw, from the Haven. A doomed romance that is fizzling out now that she lost her home to that faction. I could see her rebounding and falling for another young cat (apprentice aged or newly made warrior). There might be some extra drama... what with potential Robinpaw crushing in return on her. Fight! Fight! Fight!

Possible plots:

1. What use are Diplomats? Kelpie loves her duties of diplomat! It's why she sought to make friends with the Haven in the first place. But since loosing her home, she's struggling to see what good it is. What use is Diplomacy if the Haven will try to wipe you out anyways?

2. Secrets Sealed Tight: Kelpie's secretive nature has saddled her with a new guilty conscious. She missed the Haven's attack on League camp completely. Why? Because she was out on patrol with her aunt, an aunt she suspects is spying on the League for the Haven. This is the first time she's ever been confronted with opposing ideals. Sharing another's secret is what bad cats do. But is she bad for not having tried to help her family? Kelpie is at an impasse, not aligned with the Haven but not against them yet.

History

"WIP" ― ?? to ???.

PRE-BIRTH

Things had been getting stressful since Ashjump took over the Haven. Haptalaön was struggling with the increasing tension between the factions and began wandering further afield. The Scout would eventually meet Red Cap, a powerful loner who saved him from falling prey to a badger. Suffice to say, he was smitten and began regularly meeting with the calico loner when the stress at home became too much.

They shouldn't have been surprised when Red Cap discovered she was pregnant. Haptalaön has no choice but to wake up to the reality of the world they lived in and they had to make a choice for their kit's future. Red Cap wouldn't be able to live in a group, she much preferred her solitary lifestyle. Saying that, she did suggest that Haptalaön come and live with her. But, the scout was too loyal to his family and the League to leave. It was dangerous for the kits to live as loners, especially with the Haven running around and so, Red Cap agreed to give the kits to Haptalaön to live in the League when they were old enough.
KITHOOD

Kelpie was the middle child of a litter of three kits, sisters. Her older sister, Fae was the brawn, her the "Brains" or the closest to it, while Selkie was...the adventurer. From an early age their mother told them that they would one day go live in the League with their father, something that Kelpie both dreaded and anticipated. She understood her mother was sending them away for their safety, not because she didn't love them, but still it promised change...scary change.

Meeting her father, Kelpie quickly clung to him. Haptalaön was a calm and contemplative individual, someone who exuded strength and protection. As her new life began, Kelpie would cling to him, very gradually coming out of her shell as she gained confidence in the new environment. She'd come to enjoy the company of her other relatives, from her aunt, great-uncles, great-aunt... and so on. Turns out, she's got a lot of family in the League!!! Many cats, either through bloodline or adoption were connected to the original League's power couple: Dante and Mayfair.

Not everything was fun and games, unfortunately. It become quickly clear why Red Cap had given up her kits. Leafbare came, and hunting became difficult. Traps that the League relied on were coming up destroyed, leaving them useless for catching extra prey in these harsh times. To make matters worse, apparently League traps were found on clan land!! This couldn't be their doing, right?? Kelpie's family wouldn't intentionally harm other cats, could they? A reoccurring culprit was often theorized, could it be a faction of cats called "The Haven"? But there was no proof for a good moon, around the time when a gathering was held. Murmurs from her clanmates spoke of Stoneclan's strong hatred for the League, willingness to aggress their cats and reluctance to believe their innocence until proof was presented to them that it was, indeed, the Haven's doing.

Kelpie couldn't understand why Stoneclan could hate the League so, or why the League itself spoke of the clan with such disgust. She didn't get why her sister Fae described them as "Violent", telling her that this "Bad clan" was putting cats on trial and killing them for being a part of the Haven! It sounded like maybe it was just a scared bunch of cats, right? After all, there was a very nice Stoneclanner called "Rainbreeze" who often came to visit the nursery, checking on his and "Dusty's" kits.

And then she found out why...

One of Dusty's kits, Clover, had been playing hide-and-seek when a cruel Stoneclanner had stolen her away! Her mom and dad had tried to get her back, but the cat was hit by a monster and killed. Everyone mourned Clover's death, but what worried Kelpie was the fires of hatred this seemed to burn inside her sister. Fae wanted revenge! She wanted to teach the evil Stoneclan and Haven a lesson! Much to Kelpie's dismay, nothing would sway her sister. In the end, Fae would sneak out of camp and get into a scrap with a fox cub. She was lucky to survive the ordeal, but would loose an eye in the process.

This whole thing would shake Kelpie deeply. She didn't want to support this...this violence! All it did was get her friends and family hurt! This hatred... there had to be a way to get rid of it? To bring peace. As things settled down, and Clover was found to have survived her kitnapping, Kelpie focus her sights on what she saw as the solution to it all: The Diplomat Division.

"WIP." ― ?? to ??.

Each sister would join a different Division of the League. Fae, obviously, picked the Mercenary's. Kelpie would become a Diplomat, and Selkie who longed to explore would join the Scouts. Kelpie would be assigned a Diplomat by the name of "Mimicgleam" as her mentor. Mimicgleam had experience in the clans, having been raised in Streamclan. She'd quickly beg to learn all the ins and outs of diplomacy, from mediating to helping others. Kelpie was a natural at it, becoming obsessed with caring for her League-mates, brightening their days during this cold season. But that wasn't all she did...

The Haven. A forbidden faction that her mentor warned her not to approach. She could practice her diplomatic skills with Lakeclanners and Streamclanners who passed by, cats who were specifically on "Moon Patrols" to attack the Haven's barn. These cats were kind, and often stopped by on their way back, sharing stories of violence and attempted attacks. These troubled her, especially considering how angry her dad was that the League themselves weren't involved.

That wasn't entirely true... now, was it? Kelpie would discover her aunt, Vioge, covered in mud. The she-cat would admit that she had helped a Lakeclan patrol attack the Haven, going behind Shade's back. When Kelpie confronted her, angry that she'd hurt Haveners, her surprised aunt would explain that the League wasn't all it seemed. Their leadership was weak! Shade was endangering their family and allowing the clans to them like a scapegoats. She'd ask Kelpie to keep her activity a secret, vouch for her sneaking out. This was a promise that Kelpie intended to keep.

But it also created a new type of ambition in her mind: One to find a Haven cat caught up in this mess, and try to solve things Diplomatically. The individual, or more specially individuals she'd find? Two apprentices: Robinpaw and Brackenpaw.

The two siblings were afraid of her first, with Robinpaw jumping immediately to protect their albeit larger and fluffier sibling. Quickly enough they'd strike up a chiller conversation after Kelpie explained that she was a Diplomat and wasn't trained to hurt anyone. While Robinpaw remained wary, his brother Brackenpaw would begin a "diplomatic" exchange with her. The young cats would talk about their different lives. As much as she pitched the idea of peace, it seemed, at least for now, that with the Clans attacking the Haven there wasn't much the other faction could do when they were... occupied. Undeterred the three youths agreed to meet up again, and try to find ways to solve things peacefully.

Kelpie would sneak out frequently to meet up with Robinpaw or Brackenpaw, and sometimes both. Brackenpaw was the easiest to talk to, jolly and playful they'd often spend time crafting gifts together and sharing fun stories at the border. It would take a bit longer for Robinpaw to warm up to her, but as time passed and Kelpie shared some of the gifts she had made with Brackenpaw to them, they too would come to see reason.

Then came stories of ghosts - sightings of leaders from days long pasts. The League would send envoys to help the clans investigate these rumors, intent on preventing the Haven from using these to manipulate others. Kelpie, however, knew that this was far from what the Haven was interested in. Talking with Robinpaw and Brackenpaw, she'd been let on the secret of the Haven's own mission: find a crystal moon. She had no idea why the Streaking Comet thought this Crystal Moon was so important, but this made her hopeful: The Haven didn't have the nasty plans that the Clans were worried about! Things were going to be okay!

And they were, for a time. A moon waxed and waned as Kelpie enjoyed the company of her family and friends while the Expedition carried out their mission. She'd even come to conclude that she had developed a crush on Brackenpaw. Her own little secret she wouldn't share even with him. But these happy times weren't made to last....

The Haven attacked. They attacked with the intent to kill. They attacked to drive the League out of their home. Kelpie had missed the whole thing, taken out on a patrol by her aunt Vioge, but she saw the devastation. Her home, gone in an instant. She didn't have a chance to track Brackenpaw or Robinpaw down, as the regrouped League needed to urgently find a new temporary place to stay and recover. But questions were buzzing in her mind... why was she not caught up in it all? How come she and a small selection of cats had missed it? Why was the strongest combatant besides Bramble, the Mercenary "Kestrelmaul" on the same patrol as her and her aunt at a time where his strength would have been needed most? The one who organized this was Vioge... could it be?

She didn't dare speak her fears. Vioge was family. Vioge had trusted her during the mud situation, if she told anyone she'd have to share that secret too. After all, she'd covered from her aunt sneaking out to supposedly "Help the Clans". Besides, she was more worried how she could be implicated in all that. Why had she been taken on that patrol, and not her sisters? Could... could Brackenpaw or Robinpaw have arranged something? Even if they had, the fact she had been complicit by meeting Haven cats in secret could make her family label her as a spy. Obviously that was the last thing she wanted to happen.

She'd speak nothing about her doubts, or her secrets to anyone. Worse than the guilt was the pressing question: What use is Diplomacy if the Haven will try to wipe you out anyways? Why would the cat she'd come to crush on, tried to appeal to, join in the destruction of her home? Had her attempts to befriend Brackenpaw and Robinpaw been... in vain? Had her efforts to make peace been used to make a fool of her? Or worse, made her complicit in the destruction of her family's home?

These questions would weigh on her as Kelpie would begin the next chapter her life. A chapter, that's yet to be told...

"WIP" ―?? to ??.

Kelpie's has yet to finish her Diplomat training. This section is a placeholder until it is time to start filling it out~

Detailed Appearance

Unlike her two siblings, who both take after her father's side of the family, Kelpie takes after her mother's. Her brown coat, reminiscent to Red Cap's spots, are accentuated by her mother's fluff (to an almost new extreme degree). Her blue eyes, like the sea, are a paler shade of her mother's. That is where their similarities end, as hints of Mayfair's lineage crops up in the rest of Kelpie's markings....specifically in her chimera markings! A half brown face, the one "uniquely kelpie" aspect of hers, extends down to her body and tail, layered in a way reminiscent of her great-grandmother's. All this to make the one uniquely brown cat of the sibling trio.

Ceremonies

 Kelpie's greenhorn ceremony[]
Shade:

Kelpie, you have chosen to train as a Diplomat. Your mentor in this division will be Mimicgleam. Mimicgleam, you are a talented and adaptable diplomat. I trust you to pass on your experience and knowledge onto your greenhorn.

Personality

+Alert +Caring +Imaginative +-Mellow +-Moralistic +-Familial -Meddlesome -Secretive -Petty

Kelpie is very much a cat who sees conflict as something to resolve with "words" not "claws". Caring, she wants the best for her family and League-mates, going out of her way to bring them little gifts or offer compliments to brighten their day. Her familial nature has her volunteering to help parents with their kits, and all over view the League as one big happy family, treating everyone with the same level of warmth and kindness as she does her siblings and father. Her boundless imagination will always have her coming back with new and surprising ways to entertain others, going as far as to work with the Scout division to craft some fancy and extravagant gifts.

Mellow, Kelpie shows a great deal of gentleness and understanding towards others and their plights. Alert to her surroundings, she will keenly pick up on other's moods and be drawn to trying to alleviate anyone who's feeling down. This can have the immediate downside of her being perceived as a nuisance, a meddlesome kid who sticks her nose into situations that don't concern her. It doesn't help that Kelpie has a very strict set of "morals" that impact how she view of the world. She doesn't care about the warrior code, but has her own black and white view of "good" and "bad". You hurt someone? You have done something bad. You don't share? Bad! Sure, it makes her a good guide and Diplomat who'll go out of her way to resolve conflict, but it also will cause conflict when Kelpie's own narrow view of behaviors doesn't align with others. To make matters worse, she isn't exactly quick to let bygones be bygones. Petty, Kelpie will go out of her way to make you know you wronged her. She'll stuff your nest with brambles, find convenient excuses to avoid you, and even spread rumors about you... Overall a nice cat who's bad side you don't really want to get on!

Finally, Kelpie's greatest flaw as a Diplomat might also be what some could view as a reliable consort. She's secretive, to a fault. You could tell her you were part of the Haven and was planning to wipe out the League, but if you plead her to keep a secret she will. Her moralistic views come into play here, after all, a "good" cat keeps other's secrets...right?
