Major Tom is a bot that surfs the stars looking for friends.
Originally Major was a data bot for the crew that used to inhabit the ship he flies in, the crew of which has long since rotted away.
Major Tom was injured in whatever happened to the ship and the people on it, now Major is alone, with all this data and slowly trying to process it all together.
He doesn't remember what happened, just that he is alone. So now Major wanders through space with a half busted ship looking for friends.
He wears clothes to hide that he is a robot, not everyone treats them well and being so self aware Major doesn't want anyone to know how entirely robotic he is, he says his limbs are prosthetic and that his helmet always stays on cuz he has breathing issues.
Major Tom only uses male pronouns to be unhindered by the bias in space, (women, children, or robots have a hard time travelling alone, and Tom is alone)
