SUMMARY

Once a member of Roguewave's Traveller band, Hotspring was the refined negotiator and advisor of the group. Unfortunately, despite his vast intellect, he was terribly unaware of how dangerous and unpredictable Roguewave would prove to be. After it was decided that Roguewave would take the Coast, Pufferfish was given one job and one job only: gain a hostage. 

Hotspring would eventually succeed by capturing Dogfish, the son of Captain Shark. While prisoner, however, Dogfish would ultimately bond with the elderly leopon. Especially when Hotspring learned of Blobfish's existence, having convinced himself he would never meet another hybrid. Dogfish is also taken in by Hotspring's life story, from being a cub born in a place under guard by upwalker keepers in a territory far beyond the Coast to eventually managing to escape and trying to make it stick in various Traveller bands. He was never particularly happy with Roguewave's leadership but who else would have him?

After Dogfish is eventually rescued by Urchin, Seahorse and Pan, the blame lands solely on Hotspring. He had one job, after all. Roguewave viciously attacks Hotspring before leaving him for dead. Knowing that Hotspring would incur some sort of punishment for allowing him to escape, Dogfish goes back to find him with his parents, Eel and Orca and they find Hotspring barely alive. Due to a combination of Dogfish's pleas and wanting to shoot down Eel's unruly protests, Shark decides to take in Hotspring. He is nursed back to health by Orca, Clownfish and Blobfish and takes on the Coast name of Pufferfish. While Roguewave's attack has left him with partial blindness and a permanently injured back leg, Pufferfish does what he can to fish for the Coast with his good two front paws and also forms a firm bond with Blobfish, seemingly able to understand the other hybrid's odd manner of speaking.
