Backstory: 

Vertigo was created by the umbramancer, Nickolai, from pure paint. He was a soul converted into a demonic ghost by a particular ghost ,but was stolen not only once, but twice. Eventually was found by the father of the umbramancer. Vertigo's purpose was to be the "protagonist" of a story, a hero, everyone's hero. Vertigo grew to dislike this since he grew to realize he was his own person and it wasn't making his supposed love interest and best friend, Nikole, happy. Eventually, he wanted to escape the umbramancer's castle due to being treated unfairly, feared the worst for his friends and him, and more importantly...there felt like there was something more out there for him, something he needs to remember...

A mysterious fire broke out of the mansion, to this day Vertigo is not sure how it happened. It leaded to an evacuation, he managed to successfully escape with his two friends, Nikole and Scribbly. After some trouble, they were founded by a professional entertainer, a hell spawn created to torture sinners, and the Demon of Dark Comedy, Connor and his partner who is a dark angel named Juliette. After some convincing from Juliette, and seeing some potential talent within the clocks, he hired them.

They worked under him as main entertainers and preformed musical entertainment throughout hell. However, all good things come to an end shortly, or was it a good thing to begin with?

After some time, as months flew by, Vertigo felt a lot of pressure with show business, demons, and even relationships. He was very aware of Nikole’s feelings towards him; He was never so sure how to feel, he liked her but at the same time, wasn’t sure if the feelings were as intense as Nikole’s. He wanted to give it a shot just to experience what it would be like to be with not only with Nikole, but with somebody. Vertigo once shared a kiss with her, which resulted to a striking headache which made him immediately back out from the relationship. It all sent him into a panic, and he didn’t know why. This led to some awkward tension between Nikole and Vertigo. He confided in Juliette, there was one thing that helped with all this stress was a good connection with Juliette, who always was comforting him during those tough times. He grew a rather…intriguing interest with the dark angel, knowing what they can do and are known for.

Vertigo asked Juliette for a favor, help with figuring out why he’s been having panic attacks, especially regarding Nikole. This is something that’s been weighing on him for a very long time, before the mansion fire. Memories, he always wondered why they haunted him so when there was nothing to remember. He asked her if there was a way to remember what was lost to soothe those aching pains. Juliette obliged and helped him return his memories…which ended up being a bad move. Vertigo’s past life memories flooded his mind, and it was a lot to take in. Traumas, remembering his own death, all this was something that overwhelmed him. This turned him into a wraith, but one that was not of the ordinary, one of corruption due to Vertigo being so emotionally frail. Juliette managed to save him from such corruption, she made a deal, and he accepted. She bestowed powerful dark magic to help him control such corruption, also powerful dark magic for him to keep. It’s how he obtained his appearance today. Ever since…Vertigo’s personality changed. He became a bit more bitter and depressed, though he was able to keep a level head around others.

After an incident with Nikole, he left Connor and Juliette behind, and took Scribbly with him. (However, he would visit Juliette often). He decided to reconnect with his friend, Wisteria. They traveled together and would save souls for years. They established a close bond over the years, but eventually disaster struck that bond…

The Dark Angel of Destruction found Vertigo, noticing every vulnerable point that was exposed in his mental psyche. They decided to take advantage of him by manipulation, since they were unable to create a deal with Vertigo since he already was bound to another Dark Angel. He broke the bond he had with Wisteria and abandoned them for this new ambition. Together they worked together to try to “destroy hell”, rid everything horrible that was conceived from it. Vertigo managed to find the corpses of angels and reanimate them as soldiers for preparation of the destruction of hell.

Thankfully, Vertigo didn’t get far. He was stopped by Anamitra, Owen, and an odd individual that went by the Bringer of Death. Wisteria soon joined them, still very hurt from a trick Vertigo has fallen into, they knew he was possessed by his own bitterness. Eventually Vertigo snapped out of it, they were able to defeat the Dark Angel. Before Vertigo was able to spew any apologies, the void they were apart of crumbled, and everyone was sent to different alternate locations. Vertigo fell into the Envy circle of hell and was found by the Leviathan Prince, Renatus.

Vertigo felt the guilt growing, and the only way he’s able to ease that tension is start his own redemption arc. Luckily for him, Renatus is all about serving justice, and Vertigo begged Renatus to help him become a better person again. (Note: Renatus didn’t take him seriously when Vertigo blabbered about being such a Villain trying to destroy hell)

Vertigo meets a very friendly demon named Charlie, who he connected very well with, though he was skeptical at first due to her being a demon. However, it didn’t take long for him to warm up to her. Charlie helped him a lot make new friends and reestablish connections, such as making amends with Wisteria again, and apologizing to them. Vertigo was able to talk things out with Anamitra and Owen, who were still suspicious of him. All seemed well, but the only one amends he is struggling with and debating about is with the one and only, Nikole…Someone who he was the closest with since the very beginning.
