Teetering on the edge of a typical mean girl stereotype, and is honestly reveling it. While Hattie Mae has acquired a few friends that she hasn't had the chance to alienate yet, she very much hasn't grown out of the childish habit of spreading childish gossip and poking fun at people she doesn't really care for. She, for some reason, speaks in a southern accent (more of an Alabamian twang), and has the general mannerisms of a southern belle.
