aoi mizuyama (水山青依)

full name

she

pronouns

16, forever (april 14th)

age

ghost, previously human

species

dead

status

" even if it's full of love, all a ghost can do is haunt "

suffering a tragic fate, aoi roams her hometown and school as a ghost, seemingly confined to it, specifically near where she died. she can't do much as a ghost, unable to remember how she died (or so she says) she can't live on peacefully in the afterlife, stuck in some kind of limbo.

after meeting akane, the only person who can see her, they spend time trying to recover memories of her past human life, bonding over it and becoming friendly. as time goes on, she comes up with a twisted plan to try and come back to life, afraid she missed out on her own teenage years.

  • as a human, aoi was pretty quiet and blended in with everyone. she was a good student and didn't have a lot of friends, though she was very curious about akane.
    • akane never really noticed her, although they were in the same school.
  • aoi is unable to interact with the human world or people, bound to the spirit realm (between life and death) but she has the ability to possess things, and even people if she tries hard enough. other ghosts disapprove of her methods as she "messes with a different realm too much for her own good"
  • following her dissapearance, a lot of rumors spread, such as how she drowned or might have killed herself as she was a victim of bullying. other rumors talked about her infatuation with akane.

AKANE

friend, crush (mutual)

cw for mentions of suicide

aoi's only friend. she was haunting her for fun, inexplicably drawn to her, until she realized akane could actually just see her and was in fact trying to ignore her. she likes teasing her and spends pretty much all her time with akane. over time, as much as the realization hurts, aoi develops a crush on akane.

it feels like they were bound by fate. or rather, aoi messed with fate itself. at an all time low and with nothing else to lose, she gives up her life in hopes to finally be by akane's side, forever, even as a ghost. after dying, she has almost no memory of what she did and why she did it, her death acting as some kind of "fresh start". if aoi suddenly remembered, she wouldn't be able to tell her the truth.

overall these two have a pretty good/healthy relationship since aoi still does everything out of "love" for akane and wouldn't want to harm her, though it sometimes borders on obsession. the longer they stay together though, the more aoi grows impatient and discontent with having no proper physical form, and the more akane loses touch with reality itself. she becomes paranoid and more inclined to do what aoi tells her.
