During his life, Snake adored his little sister. He was always gentle with her and took care of her when no one else did. Their pack believed that Ash was cursed by the Fire Spirit and banished her from the pack. Snake defied them, secretly caring for her and teaching her how to hunt. He helped her to secretly follow the pack, because even though he loved her dearly, he still felt loyalty to the pack who raised him and knew he could not abandon them. Snake also knew that he would be safer staying with them, especially from badgers (as a completely random example...), and that he would not have been able to make it as a "lone wolf".
