The fleurcep species itself is actually the organism that attacks and takes over its host. Normally only herbivores become infected with a fleurcep, however, in rare cases, a herbivore that just ate a Fleurcep seed, is hunted and eaten by a carnivore, and the seed ends up embedding itself in the carnivore's skull instead. 

This character is a thylacine that became infected with a violently poisonous fleurcep flower. Even touching the exposed vines or petals of the bloom causes the body to convulse and shut down, its really horrible.This character is a delicate balance between life and death, beauty and ugly. the thylacine's mind is essentially dead, the only part that remains allows the Fleurcep parasite to experience limited emotions, most of which feel residual pained and sad, because of the Thylacine's slow, painful 'death' to it's literal tendril-roots digging through it's brain.
