only particularly unusual features are his white pupils and powerful eyesight. he is able to follow extremely fast movement and pick up on minute details, similar to some insects. this is naturally great for seeing through sleight of hand scams, and picking up on how they're done. it also makes him sensitive of sudden movements in his surroundings, making him able to react quickly to sudden attacks and things like that

is very adept at sleight of hand, owing a lot to his vision being a great learning aid

due to having amassed a kind of obscene amount of dirty money, he's developed a taste for expensive items and doesn't bat an eye at spending a lot of money at once, however he's practical and doesn't really own more than he needs

he's very generous with people he likes, and occasionally with people he just wants to stop bothering him. after all, what other use is there with so much money

has several burner phones he rotates through for work. doesn't really use phones for anything recreational, just business

is a total creature of the night and feels at home in the dark and the most hole-in-the-wall kinds of places

functions incredibly well with low sleep until he suddenly just dozes off. usually a very light sleeper, but can be difficult to wake in that situation

just dies in heat and humidity, but is able to deal with the cold pretty well due to growing up in a very cold region

he likes the taste of alcohol, especially wine, but doesn't like drinking around people save for the very few he's close with because he wants to be in full control of himself to avoid slipping up

he didn't know this until well into adulthood, but his father was a member of the yakuza. when he was around eight years old, his father was killed during a dispute between families. his mother was able to pack up and skip town in a hurry during the chaos, and immigrated with him to a distant city in the far north with what little assets she was able to bring to have a fresh start and distance herself from what happened, for her mental health as well as their safety. besides, she'd always wanted to see the northern lights

his mother struggled to cope with the loss of her husband, as well as the difficulties of adapting to being an immigrant in an unfamiliar region. she had no one to rely on except for her young son, which unfortunately led to some pretty heavy parentification early in life. she would seek emotional support from him and let him help out around the house, with increasingly more age-inappropriate duties as time went on, so she could focus on working, and eventually, on her dating life in the hopes to expand the household and ease their burdens, as well as to move on from the loss of her husband

he never complained, or blamed his mother. he still doesn't, because he realizes how hard of a situation it was. but of course, this was all very difficult and unsuitable for a child to handle, and led to an early maturity and a feeling of never truly having a childhood. he was very withdrawn at school, seeing it as the only time he had to get away from his mother and his responsibilities. he would isolate from his classmates and spend most or all of his free time between classes on reading or studying, things that he actually enjoyed doing

when he was around thirteen, his mother got remarried (as it turns out, she was a very critical dater) and proceeded to have three kids throughout his teenage years. this was good, as her new husband was a good person that ended up taking over the majority of the household duties, seeing that it was way too much for a child to be doing

however, nao quickly started to feel out of place in this new family and happy household that didn't need so much from him. at that point, he really had no idea how to just start living like a normal adolescent. suddenly having a lot more free time, he started branching out and socializing with other teens

somehow, he fell in with the wrong crowd, and learned that he had an incredible knack for doing illegal things without getting caught. it started with various things from pickpocketing to cheating at card games, and it pretty much paved his way to a career in organized crime by the time he finished high school

through crime, he felt an excitement that he'd never felt before in his constantly busy and stressful life, and quickly found himself getting addicted to a lifestyle of freedom and thrillseeking, traveling the world and basically doing whatever the hell he wanted without having to deal with repercussions

in his early twenties he took part several large heists partnered with one of his criminal colleagues and a rotating cast of other parties, many of which were cut out of the picture at the whims of his scheming colleague after serving their purpose to get a bigger cut of the profits—something he found rather disturbing, actually, but wasn't able to confront

the heists became large-scale enough that they made it onto the news. they never did get caught, and the identities of the perpetrators are still a mystery to the police

eventually his conscience caught up with him, not quite enough to turn himself in, but he quit doing heists and crime in general and moved back home for a while to try to start over and live a straight life. he got a normal job as a barista, and even got into a serious domestic relationship with one of his former classmates, although it was mostly forced on his part as an attempt at normalcy

that lasted about a year, until he quietly realized that he really had no place in a normal life anymore. he began to crave the freedom and excitement of his old lifestyle again. one day, he left a letter on his partner's bedside, and he was gone

he actually has a pretty good relationship with his family as an adult, still visits home sometimes and his siblings like him. his mother feels quite guilty about what he went through in his early life, and does her best to just be a normal mother to him now, and to his younger siblings as well

he's never been particularly close with his stepdad but they are on good terms, his stepdad is a very peaceful person who often feels concern for him from time to time. he's perhaps the only one that isn't completely fooled by nao's normal act, but doesn't press it

his mom thinks he's an accountant, because that's what he tells her. she also keeps asking when he's going to get married, a question that he will dodge until the day he dies
