HERE'S THE STORY, ABOUT A LITTLE GUY WHO LIVES IN A BLUE WORLD. Cobalt is a quiet person who seems to prefer to keep to themselves. They're terribly awkward and pretty shy, preferring to blend into the background and rarely speaking up in person unless they're close to someone. They often feel disconnected from others, though, so they rarely make an effort to reach out. Some of this is their own doing, since they actively make an effort to not be seen by others. They feel better communicating with others via text or messaging apps. Though Cobalt is incredibly shy and makes an effort to stay solitary, they're hardly a cold person. They have a huge heart, and when they do manage to connect to another person, they are very kind and warm. They can be quite clingy, though, fearing rejection and loss of that genuine connection that they rarely have. Though they're a little slow to open up, you'll never find a more loyal friend. Cobalt has a very strong moral compass, even if it might be a little off, at least according to some people. They're willing to do the right thing, no matter what, even if it might be illegal. They've committed a lot of cybercrime just to help people, and they still stand by what they did, even if they are willing to take an alternate path to do the right thing next time. They want to help people in need, people like them who never found a place to belong, people with no homes, people who are downtrodden. Cobalt is actually very smart, though they might not look the part. Even though they have access to limitless information on any piece of technology available to them, they actually quite like to read, and will spend a lot of their free time reading about any random subject. Their memory recall is quite good, and they're very observant, able to pick up on details others might not pick up on in the environment. That's really only when it comes to the environment, however. They're a bit garbage with social cues, which is part of why they tend to feel disconnected from others at times. .

  • Cobalt likes to play games or use their phone without touching it. It seems like a bit of a flex, but at this point, they're mostly just used to it.
  • They have a gacha game addiction.
  • Their diet is awful, consisting of mostly junk food. They barely even know how to cook. There's lots of instant ramen in their diet.
  • They are a very heavy sleeper. It'd probably be impossible to wake them up if they were asleep during the apocalypse...

Cobalt's main ability is that they can manipulate any form of technology remotely. Normally, Cobalt must be in the same room as a piece of technology to manipulate it (a range of about 1000 square feet.) Additionally, this range can be bypassed by tapping into devices like wifi routers, which allows Cobalt to manipulate any device connected to it without having to be in range.

  • With gear, they can extend their natural range further. Before attending Mantra, they were able to modify a wifi extender to serve this purpose.
  • In addition to their main ability, Cobalt naturally gives off a radio signal very similar to wifi, which can be connected to by devices. They can mentally decide what the name of the network is and set a password, if they want to.

Story

Cobalt was born to a single mother named Elisa Glass, a woman living in the suburbs of LA. Elisa had electricity powers, and she had a double life as a hero named Blue Bolt. Cobalt did not know about their mother's hero work (Elisa had the proper paperwork to do this, but it was mostly to protect Cobalt), but their mother was a hero to them. They were very close, even if Elisa was often busy and had to leave Cobalt with a family member. This broke Elisa's heart every time she had to do this, as the thing Elisa loved more than being a hero was her child. But she knew that she had to protect the people of LA and beyond.

When Cobalt was 3, they got their first tablet. Elisa was worried about getting her child a tablet so young, but she wasn't always sure how to keep the child entertained when she was gone, especially with family members or babysitters. It was around this time when their power was discovered. Cobalt was sitting all the way across the room, playing a game on the tablet without even touching it. They had the ability to remotely manipulate technology with their mind.

Hero work is never without its risks. Blue Bolt had been interrupting shipments for some villainous types, when she was confronted by a strange man. The two fought, but Blue Bolt ended up having to retreat when she was struck by the man's insidious attack. Her arm was infected with a horrific black and red... substance, but she failed to seek medical attention because she did not want to worry Cobalt. So, she covered it up. However, Cobalt was not dumb, and noticed both their mother's arm being covered and her condition quickly worsening. Elisa would brush it off, but even after a few days, she was extremely ill. After the third night, she would pass.

Cobalt was only 10 when this happened. It was then that Blue Bolt's identity was revealed to Cobalt by authorities. Cobalt was absolutely crushed, but didn't want their mother's legacy to be forgotten. They would find out everything they could about Blue Bolt, and commit it to memory. She was their hero, and they wouldn't let anyone forget her. But now, they had nobody to take care of them. None of their family members could take them in, so they were thrown in the foster care system. It was a terrible time for them, especially since they were starting to question their gender and experiment with their powers more, trying to push these boundaries just got them thrown out of multiple foster homes.

Cobalt eventually aged out of foster care. They were able to get a programming job, which they very much just lied on the resume. Cobalt didn't know how to program, and instead, would just use their power to tell the computer what to do and then sit around and screw around the rest of the time they were supposed to be working. It was way too easy, and things were finally looking up. However, they also wanted to do some good in the world. They decided to use their powers to participate in hacktivism. They felt like they were doing a good thing, but unfortunately, a crime is a crime. They were eventually caught screwing around at work, and were forced to confess that they were using their powers to do their job (they did not admit they had zero experience in the field because that would be a little embarrassing). They were fired on the spot, and they were investigated further, in which their hacktivism was discovered. They were arrested and imprisoned, but they protested, because they felt like they did the right thing. But... a crime is a crime, and laws are laws...

Cobalt sat in prison for a few months. Due to their power, they were placed in a special cell that had basically no technological functions in it- no security camera, they had to be watched by a guard all the time. This gave them some time to reflect on their life. Where had they gone wrong? They really had just wanted to do the right thing, and yet... One day, they were visited by a man named Liam Blackmore. Liam had been looking for potential students, and Cobalt's story intrigued him. He agreed that Cobalt was in the right to help people, but was clear that the method was not the right one. He offered Cobalt a choice: stay here, or become a student at Mantra Academy. Of course, this was on the terms that Cobalt would not use their power for any more crimes, for any reason. Cobalt, of course, was wary. They knew that hero work was dangerous, and their power had no combat applications. But they wanted to help people... to be like their mother. So, they agreed. And... no more cybercrime.
