Miriam Sharp

Rico's single mother. She moved her family to a new neighborhood to escape what she feels are negative influences on her son. Since it's only the two of them together, Miriam can be very overbearing and also tends to wax nostalgic, both traits which have had a negative effect on Rico's self-esteem. She also tends to be quite abrasive, especially towards some of the other neighborhood women.

However, Miriam also has a tender side, and only wants what's best for her child. When Rico begins to come out of his shell, Miriam at first fears that the likes of Mona are bad influences, but eventually comes to realize how much Rico needs true friends in addition to a mother's love. For all of Miriam's faults, no one can say that she didn't raise her child right.
