in life he was a friend of heavenstar and viperspine, until him and their two other friends, adderfang and boulder, died defending their camp against dogs. to stay together, he became heavenstars primary communicator and designated prophet from starclan along with adderfang and boulder as secondary prophets. when heavenstar began to doubt starclan and the motives of their actions towards the clans, jadeclaw took heavy offense and sent a flood to decimate heavenstars whole clan and cursing them with eternal life, the only other survivor being viperspine, who was away from camp on an investigative mission for a fake threat jadeclaw had created to lure her away by request of adderfang, viperspines twin sister.

after the flood, he spends most of his time watching heavenstar go about their eternal life.
