Philautia High-Hill

Philautia High-Hill is the proud daughter of Alton and Karlowa High-Hill. 

Her father is a Halfling and her mother is a Goblin, they met in the mountains of the Hordelands. Alton was a traveling Sage and Karlowa was involved in a cult that worshiped a hidden Aboleth in on of the many caves of the mountains. When they met Alton was smitten and soon the two had fallen in love with each other. Knowing that her cult wouldn't approve of her love, Karlowa made the decision to elope and abandon the cult, moving to the outskirts of the snow city WinterKeep with Alton. A few years later they had Philautia and they discovered that her mother's close proximity to the Aboleth had some unforeseen affects. Thus, Philautia was born an Aboleth Tiefling with the abilities to speak telepathically to those around her and breathe underwater as easily as she could air.

When she was a baby her parents came across an infant in the river coming from the mountain tops, the child was almost dead, slit at the throat and ritually dressed in a basket to float down the river to it's death. Her parents did what they could to help the child, and thanks to that and the babies extraordinary strength, the child lived and they discovered that the girl was a Goliath who had been born under a dark star. This was seen as a terribly bad omen for the clan. To make things right her clan believed they must sacrifice the child. Thus, she was sentenced to death by her clan. 

Karlowa and Alton took her in and the girl aged, naming herself Maaki High-Keep, mixing the name of the family that took her in with that of the mountains she came from, and sweaing an oath of protection to the High-Hill family. Maaki grew into a strong and towering presence. Her and Philautia are very close friends and as Maaki can speak very little due to her throat injury, she will often speak to Philautia telephathically and let her speak her words for her. Both can use sign language as well but Maaki mostly prefers the telepathy.

Growing up Philautia took after her father's scholarly nature and studied the arcane art of magic. Together with her familiar, Tepa, and Maaki she decided to strike out on her own and do her own traveling of the world in pursuit of the strange and arcane treasures of the world.
