Ren Saitou (《HERO》)

Ren was raised on the grounds of a shinto shrine and was brought up with the assumption they would follow in their parents' footsteps and become a priest. The assumption never particularly bothered Ren, who even now finds comfort in their faith and has a fondness for all manner of places of worship. Rather than being a childhood dream, the desire to become a hero came later in their life.

Growing up, Ren preferred to wear traditional clothing and presented a soft-spoken personality. After their quirk manifested, some of their peers took it upon themselves to begin teasing them about being a "jorougumo"-- a spider youkai. Though the bullying was never as cruel as it could have been, the so-called nickname followed Ren throughout their younger years and contributed to a great deal of self-consciousness.

Made shy by their childhood bullying, Ren's parents were startled when they stated their wish to join the Heroics Department at UA. Ren had never shown any particular desire to do anything besides continue their life at the shrine. Yet, when asked, it was clear they had put a lot of thought into their plans for the future. Simply, they desired to help people, and there was no better way to do that than to be a hero. They didn't plan to remain a hero forever, just until they felt they had done as much as they could, and then they would retire and take over as a priest for the rest of their days. It was a calm, kind dream, which reflected Ren's personality perfectly.

After receiving their acceptance letter and assignment to class 1-B, Ren prayed for the confidence to interact with their peers and make friends while pursuing their dream. Though UA respectfully gave them the choice to use the male uniform if they preferred, they tend to wear the female one with their bodysuit underneath.
