 Introduction

     A nonbeliever in gods' clothing: that is perhaps the quickest way one can explain Mikhail. Certainly, he dons his robes and assumes the role of a priest in his community, but he has little faith, if any. The church as an institution is where his loyalties lie. He would much rather lend a helping hand to others than preach about ideologies. To Mikhail, the covenant is of no importance.

     After all, the endeavor of mankind is free from the divine and the heavens have neither shifted nor allayed the worldly realms; to credit the gods for what man has struggled to achieve is dishonest.

    These are the thoughts that he keeps deeply seated inside of him, never to see the light of day and only expressed in the slightest of sighs before a sermon and the light crinkling of his nose at idolatry. That is not to say he does not understand the use of religion. Mikhail is acutely aware of the fact that belief can provide soothing support when nothing seems certain - a fact he is well aware himself. However, he cannot find it in himself to agree with blind reliance on forces that could care little about mortals.
