Lydia's mutation allows her to induce hallucinations in others. This includes auditory and visual, as well as touch. While it has a limited timespan and range, she can focus it on singular people or influence an entire crowd. She grew up hiding her mutation until it went out of control, and she found the Xavier Institute.

Lydia grew up in a wealthy Californian household, and had a relatively easy childhood. Her mother was a second generation Japanese immigrant, and her father was a wealthy businessman from New York. Although she didn't always get along with her older brothers due to having different mothers, they were on the whole fiercely protective of her.
Lydia's mutation appeared when she was 12. But, terrified of what that meant, she suppressed it for years until she couldn't any more. At 23, her powers went haywire on graduation day - but she was saved by Scott Summers, who had been keeping an eye on her for a while.
At the Institute, she quickly befriended many members; including Scott and Kurt Wagner. When Mortimer deflected from the Brotherhood, she took a liking to him and vowed to help him fit in. She didn't expect to fall in love with him, or have two daughters!
