Ever since captain Mary found him, Laerin follows him like his shadow. While Laerin respects and admires Mary, trusting him almost blindly, he has much more difficulties to interact with other people - which can sometimes lead to completely ignore what the other person said and letting Mary answer for him. Laerin always hides behind his captain, when others try to talk to him. Apart from this complete social inability, he is curious about his environment. If he doesn't really care about interacting with others, he likes observing them. He has some manners that can remind one of a child, but it's mostly seen as normal considering his potential age and the supposed environment he grew up in.

Trivia
Laerin doesn't sleep on a pillow, as he prefers sleeping on his tails. He thinks it's much more comfortable, and he wouldn't be at ease otherwise. He would always have nightmares when he uses a pillow.
When he has to fight, he uses his staff, but rarely uses the katana in it, because he's not used to handle it yet. He can also control the element of fire, but usually uses it through his lantern, because that way requires less energy.
Mary is the one Laerin looks up at the most, and he really respects him - as his captain, but also as a person. Laerin just feels like he could learn a lot by staying on his side, and he would always pay attention to what Mary says to him. Laerin talks the most when he is alone with Mary. To Laerin, Mary is like a father.
