"Oh, what's this? You shouldn't toy with a guy's heart, you know. If I'm not careful, I'll really end up falling for you~"

Name: Daichi Akio
Age: 18
Gender: Male (he/him) (FTM)

Birthday: April 26th
Talent: Ultimate Actor

Personality

Daichi is flirtatious, charming, extroverted, and incredibly likeable - the perfect image of a teenage heartthrob. Every word and action and thought of his is immensely well-practiced, and as such it's far too easy for people to get swept up in his pace and fall for the image he presents to the world. He's incredibly good at reading the mood and changing his behavior to match, and is able to laugh just about anything off. He seems to revel in the attention he receives and actively feeds into the parasocial relationships that people have formed with him, even if they're unhealthy.

Many have tried to peel back the layers to Daichi's facade, only to be left right back where they started. Really, though, is it necessary to try and dig down and understand the boy beneath the lies? Daichi simply plays the role that people want to see, after all - is that really such a crime?

It's not like he wants to acknowledge the person that lies underneath, anyway.

Backstory

Daichi was born in Tokyo, Japan alongside his twin sister Chiharu. Neither knew who their father was, and their mother was a neglectful and emotionally distant alcoholic. The two essentially had to raise themselves, and as such, were closer to each other than anyone else. Nowadays, Daichi regards the him that existed at this time as a "pitiful child" who shamefully always had to rely on his sister for everything. She was the more social one, the one who cooked for them, the one who helped keep them entertained... In comparison, Daichi felt like he could do nothing at all.

And of course, it was because of his sister that his life had managed to change. The two had gotten stopped on the way home from school one day by a scout who offered Chiharu the opportunity to star in a commercial. Chiharu agreed, but only if Daichi was able to star with her. This was a turning point in both of their lives - once they got their foot in the door of the entertainment industry, it was as if they had both become sensations overnight. More offers came pouring in, only getting bigger and bigger in scope overtime as they moved up from commercials to dramas to blockbuster hits.

For Daichi, it felt like he had finally found everything he had always been lacking in life. Attention, luxury, love - all of those things he thought he would never achieve were suddenly all within his grasp. It was intoxicating. By being someone he wasn't, by leaving the pathetic person he was behind and slipping into a brand new role, he would receive praise from the whole world.

The first time he had slipped into a role outside of the stage, it had been without thinking. During an interview, he was asked a question about his childhood. Daichi hadn't wanted to admit the truth, that he didn't have a glamorous life before becoming who he was now, that he was a worthless coward who hid behind Chiharu for every little thing - so, he didn't. Within an instant, he had put on a smile and spun a completely fake story for the masses to eat up. When Chiharu had confronted him about it afterwards, he simply laughed it off. What was the big deal? Their fans probably didn't want to know the ugly life they had actually lived up until this point. What was wrong with a little white lie to keep the glamour alive?

The reception had been positive. Daichi spent the night after the interview aired reading the adoring comments of his fans until his eyes hurt.

From that point onward, lies quickly became second nature. He carefully weaved a brand new life for himself in spite of all of Chiharu's hesitance, an interesting life, a life worthy of a star like him. Daichi Akio was never a scrawny little girl who cried when she was left alone. Daichi Akio had never been weak, had never felt his frail body tremble in the winter cold because there wasn't any heating. Daichi Akio had never been useless, had never simply sat back and let his sister march through life with the kind of strength he wished he had. Stars are meant to burn bright, after all.

It hadn't taken long after that until Chiharu had quit acting. She said it wasn't because of him, that it wasn't because she didn't want to help keep up the act that he had created, but just because she felt like she would fit better backstage rather than in the spotlight.

They both knew she was lying.

Life continued to move on. Daichi relished in the attention he received, continued to lie, continued to fuel the parasocial relationships he had with his fans. The entertainment industry was cutthroat, there were things about it that were scary, but Daichi continued onward into the depths with a smile anyway. His lies had began to become more and more frequent, and soon, he was faking even the most miniscule of things without thinking twice. He wanted to be the perfect person, he wanted to be the perfect heartthrob who had the whole world captivated, he wanted love and lust and obsession and people fighting over a chance to simply brush their hand against his skin.

Daichi wanted everything.

It was really no surprise that he had eventually gotten scouted by Hope's Peak to join as the Ultimate Actor. Daichi had not just become the darling of Japan, but the whole world. He was effortlessly charming and could manipulate the public in his favor in practically any situation, whether it was the latest storm of drama or drumming up publicity. He was living a life he never could've imagined he'd be able to reach when he was younger. So what if he had to lie to get to that point? So what if he had become unrecognizable even to his sister, to the person he once regarded as his only "truth"? The reward outweighed all of that. He had no regrets.

At last, Daichi had completely killed the pathetic child that he had started as all those years ago. No longer would that person speak another word, take another step, take another breath - for the Ultimate Actor, the entire world was now his stage, and there was no more room for flaws.

Relationships

Chiharu Akio (profile)

Daichi and Chiharu used to be close when they were younger, but times have changed. On the surface level, they treat each other kindly and seem to get along well, but there's an intense disconnect between them. They feel more like strangers than siblings most days. Daichi is thankful to her for helping him achieve the life he has now, but any further attempts to genuinely reconnect are met with a swift deflection. He refuses to rely on his sister again. He's not that person anymore.

Isamu Itou (profile)

From the beginning, Isamu had seen right through Daichi's act. At first, Daichi thought he could simply tell him what he'd want to hear and he'd give up and go away - maybe toy around with him a bit, or try to annoy him enough to get him to drop the whole thing. But those lies, too, were something that Isamu saw right through with ease. The thought of being dissected so mercilessly and made to bare the truth for someone else is utterly terrifying. What terrifies Daichi even more is that some part of him is exhilerated by the thought.

Minoru Arata (profile)

Daichi is well aware that Minoru is a fan of his, and happily feeds into the parasocial relationship he has with him. It might be considered cold of him to lead someone along this way, but it's the only way Daichi knows how to interact with fans. They're the people that Daichi must lie to most, after all.

Trivia

  • He was originally concepted as someone who was utterly sincere and couldn't bring himself to lie. This was because I didn't want to fall into the stereotype of Ultimate Actors being liars. It wasn't really interesting though, so I eventually changed it in The Great Hotel Rework of '23. Guess that's why the stereotype exists.
  • He and Chiharu initially used to be super close twins that were each other's only "truth" in the world, but I felt like there were more interesting routes I could take their relationship, so I ended up changing it.
  • His favorite food is blueberry pancakes.
