Backstory:
When Oliver was around 8-10, he was at home sleeping with his family. The night was peaceful until loud crashes were heard outside their bedrooms just for them to find themselves invaded by robbers. Oliver’s parents did their best to protect their son and try to get the robbers to leave, but young Oliver didn’t fully grasp the danger of the situation and lunged headfirst at the burglars to try and protect his parents and get rid of them. Instead, his parents swooped in to save and protect him from getting hurt which led to the both of them getting killed right in front of the poor boy. Only now listening to his parents’ words, the young yellow inkling ran for his life out of the house, somehow managing to escape his pursuers likely due to his short, fast build. From then on, this trauma has led Oliver down a much more isolated, introverted and safe path all while he was eventually found and taken into an orphanage.
There the young boy grew up meeting Adrian as the two ended up sharing a room together with their beds next to each other. While both weren’t very social with anyone, due to their proximity they eventually got to know each other in little ways by watching each other’s activities and behaviors. Oliver was a bit intimidated by the slightly older inkling’s aggressive nature while the other was fascinated by Oliver’s fixation on practicing ballet. Ballet ended up becoming Oliver’s passion after he stumbled across some old video tapes of the graceful dancers that belonged to the orphanage’s owner, and he used it as a means to escape reality and be in his own mind and world enveloped in concentration with his dancing. Most of the other kids would mock and ridicule Oliver for his obsession and quiet, timid nature but Adrian suddenly stepped in and started to back Oliver up, protecting him from bullies of all kinds. Rather than being afraid of him, Oliver grew to deeply admire the red haired inkling and the two quickly became close friends who grew up together seeming inseparable.. aside from the adoption system itself. Adrian who is two years older ended up growing out of the system at 18 and was forced to leave and go live on his own while Oliver remained.
Eventually he himself also grew out of the system without being adopted and proceeded to move on his own with his few possessions alongside with him. From there, he focused even more on learning ballet but also partaking in turf wars as a source of income. He definitely doesn’t like fighting too much, but it’s almost like a flip switches inside of Oliver when he does leading his agility, mostly learned through all his years of practice, allowing him to very efficiently maneuver towards enemies to take them out with his dapple dualies. From there, he eventually would’ve met Adrian again, the two immediately rekindling their friendship and eventually even moving in together. The only problem now is that Oliver still was hesitant to go out of his way to ever help anyone in need… It’s not like he didn’t want to help, but he was so afraid and petrified of somehow making the situations worse that he’d freeze or run at a moments notice trying his best to avoid any kind of conflict whatsoever.
Eventually this truly came back to bite Oliver when he stumbled across someone being violently attacked. But instead of helping and pushing past his fear, he fell into his old habit again and left them to their own devices, never truly knowing if they made it out of that situation alive. The thought of it began to haunt Oliver day and night, tormenting and torturing him for not doing anything and calling himself a coward. With enough determination and support from Adrian, the yellow haired inkling slowly found his courage to start taking small steps more and more to go out of his way to help anyone who needed it, no matter how uncomfortable it made him feel doing so due to interacting with strangers and constantly anxious about something going wrong because of him. He has been getting bolder and braver, but only time will tell if the timid guy can truly improve.
(He and Adrian had also been bullied by Toshi and Jay in the past when attending school (the orphanage had the kids go to public school) leading Oliver to really hate and dislike the two of them, but he has since seen Toshi grow as a person acting completely differently from the past now that Jay was out of the picture, allowing Oliver to slowly and gradually forgive and become acquaintances with Toshi.)
