He has several other, smaller scars on his body, but they're less notable. More accumulate over the course of the game.

「Personality」
Loren is rather calm and serious, though he has his humourous moments as well, quick to smile or throw a joke, especially when situations seem bad. He doesn't like formalities and is pretty friendly, even with fellow soldiers or while on the job.
He can be a little awkward in actual casual situations, however, used to military life.
His past has led him to be kind in nature, and he believes everyone deserves a second chance--violence and/or murder is never the answer. It's also the reason for his optimism, and he believes everyone can make it through hard times, especially with someone there to listen and help (and he fully volunteers for that position despite everything he has on his own plate). He cares deeply about his crew and friends, and will do anything for them. They're some of the only things still keeping him going.
Loren doesn't get angry often, but will if associating with someone who doesn't share his moral views. Such as someone who condones murder or slavery, or someone who's racist (esp. against non-humans). Depending on the situation, he may also get mad at someone for being an asshole to him. He'll aways get angry if you're an asshole to his friends.
But despite his calm and friendly nature, he suffers from PTSD after his two big life-changing events, though he keeps this to himself as it doesn't always affect his job. Suffers from nightmares and the occasional flashbacks, and get worse throughout the events of his life and career, though he tries his hardest to not let his suffering show.
Friends dying and missions that don't go as well as he plans leave him pretty hurt, especially when he thinks there could have been a way to save them or do it better. He doubts himself often, and counts himself lucky to have the friends he does, and the lover he does.

「History」
Loren was born and raised in the farming colony of Mindoir, living a relatively peaceful life until Batarian slavers attacked the colony while he was still a teenager. His family and friends were all slaughtered, and he managed to hide/fight back long enough to be rescued by Alliance soldiers, but not without major injuries.
Caught by the Batarians, he fought against them, leaving him with the left side of his face slashed open and a bullet wound in his left shoulder, along with some more minor injuries.
He enlisted into the military once he was old enough, with the idea of protecting people in mind.
Later in his service, a mission goes wrong and his entire unit of 50 was slaughtered while he managed to live through the attack, leaving him some nasty burn scars as he tried to help some of his unit get away from the thresher maw.
His inablility to save anyone during that mission left him pretty damaged.
