A former fisherman, Joseph is now on one hand a single father, and on the other an investigative journalist publishing subtle Mignyan propaganda for the local gazette, infecting others through interviews and leads -- although he's been known to look into other Mignyans on the side, gathering information. He can come off as a bit of a shady character due to the way he dresses, but he's generally very relaxed, amiable, and considered by those who know him to be a "good man". He has a very cool and collected personality, though he's not afraid to get caught up in shifty business affairs, and definitely not afraid to utilize more bold tactics to get ahead in his work; he's not interested in being at a high position, but more interested in his specific pursuits. The other half of his life is dedicated to his son, Tholo; raising him, and making sure he doesn't get mixed up in any sordid Mignyan affairs. Joseph loves his son with all of his infected heart, and maintains the relatively high workload that he has because he wants Tholo to get the best that this planet can offer. Incredibly protective of him, and doesn't mince around the details of his job since sheltering him would be relatively dangerous, but doesn't get into the gory details either. He'd like Tholo to have some nice Mignyan friends, but the overall violent and unpredictable nature of half the population puts him severely on edge. As much as Joseph would like to be a more 'resourceful' father, he does tend to end up spoiling his son quite a bit.
Despite what his demeanor might otherwise suggest, he's very physically strong due to his upbringing and isn't hesitant whatsoever to throw the first swing if an altercation with a fellow Mignyan arises. Excels at holding his own in a fistfight.

A European who originates from a small, tightly-knit and paranoid fishing village, who had heard tales of things skittering and clacking against the glass in the night, and of men disappearing from their beds. This was the only one who came back, and he came back different. With this change, the newly infected Joseph didn't stick around for too long, grabbed the host's son (along with Tholo who was then still a crab), and ran off towards the nearest train station that ran a line to the city. Before infection, Joseph and Tholo knew each other as crabs and had the same father-son bond and age range that they do as their hosts, and as such Joseph swore and promised to little Tholo that he would find a body for him. He infected him at age 3; the closest match to the crabs age.
They currently live in a very clean and decent apartment complex -- it's as realistic as a solo journalists salary could afford, but Joseph would still like to have a backyard someday. A balcony will do, for now.

- Listens to a lot of rock music, mostly classics like the Rolling Stones, but slips some modern groups in there like Queens Of The Stone Age. Also fond of German metal.
- One of his dreams is to own an animal-fur carpet, smoke a tobacco pipe, and sit in front of a fireplace. Simultaneously.
- Splurged at Abercrombie & Fitch once, but will never admit it to anybody. He really loves the pants.
- If you ever see him with his hat off, there is definitely a chance he will grievously injure you.
- There are certain aspects of his past shrouded in murky esoteric mystery, but not a living person except for him could tell you -- not even Tholo.
