Maze

When Maze was born, her mother freaked out- her calf was blind. She was distraught, thinking the Great Creator cursed her for a sin she didn't know of. When she went to the herd's spirit talker to have her questions answered. That is when the current spirit talker told her that Maze had the gift- she was protected and spoken to by the spirits, and will become the herd's next spirit talker. Maze's mother was over-joyed and her woe was replaced by bragging.

Despite her mother's bragging, Maze grew up a humble, respectable heifer- due in part by hearing the spirits of her ancestors and being taught by them the ways of the herd. She was a special case, as she heard the spirits more clearly than any other Spirit Talker that came before her. The herd respected, and listened to her more closely than they listened to their leader
