Masaki is a young and mischievous Kitsumera, true to his Tanuki nature. He enjoys playing innocent tricks and intricate games with those whose dreams he dwells in. He very often visits the dreams of children in order to play and have fun, chasing away any nightmares with pure enthusiasm. He helps them to stop fearing the monsters beneath their beds and to become confident in their own strength.

One of the many children he played with stood out to him, and he visited that child often in dreams. This child is the one who, with the help of his parents, created the dream catcher that brought Masaki to the corporeal world. Outside of dreams, Masaki's playful antics can be considered annoying and inconvenient, but he doesn't have bad intentions. He simply wants to have fun and wants others to have fun too. He often makes flour explode inside the kitchen, or splashes people from the water spout. It is often unclear if he is playing together with someone or if he sees humans as toys too. He is known to rough house with children, taking as much playful abuse as he dishes out with joy.

Masaki is mesmerized by many things in the corporeal world. He understands that in order for something to exist outside of dreams, it actually has to be created instead of just imagined. Despite his mischievous personality, he will never harm something that he knows someone has worked hard to create. He might make messes with ingredients for cake, but an actual finished cake is safe from him.

He is known for having a childlike imagination within dreams, concocting some of the most creative means to have fun. Outside of dreams, the only power that remains to him is his ability to shapeshift. He can take on any form, but can only maintain them for a short period of time. The only appearance that takes no effort to upkeep is his original Kitsumera form, and his own human form.

Masaki's dream catcher is very fragile and needs to be repaired often. This is because it was created by the hands of a child, inexperienced in the art of creation. Despite that, he still greatly admires the craftsmanship of his dream catcher and adores the child who created it. He is fiercely loyal to his child, and his family by extension, and will never leave his side.
