Maki was an assassin who was a part of the Yoshimi clan a clan that had fought endlessly to protect a piece of Eden, while also swimming in the political waters to put someone in charge that would help keep all the temples and pieces safe from their rivals. But as such stories often go, this would not be the case. The person they chose to trust was a traitor and worked for the Templars himself. This was how the young Maki would learn of betrayal.

It came on swift wings in the middle of the night, a mere few hours after he had been appointed as shogun. The attackers dropped through the roof, setting everything ablaze. Maki was given a tree branch by his father just before he died, his last words being “Keep it safe, " and he ran with it, fleeing the macabre scene of his family dying all around him. He would hear their screams forever.

The tree branch had a special crystal inside and once planted, it would bloom into a cherry blossom tree in the span of a week. Once Maki was safely hidden in a Buddhist temple, he would plant the tree there. The names of his family were carved there, so the tree could also serve as a memorial to all that he had lost.

However, it seemed that luck had not forsaken Maki. The temple he fled to was home to a different clan of Assassins, who willingly took him in. With them, he would resume his training in this war against the Templars. Over many years, he learned how to swim in the political waters, just like his father had. It was as such he would fall into the service of Oda Nobunaga, the unifier of Japan. He would work for the man that finally ended the nearly 11-year war of the Sengoku period and vindicate his family’s sacrifice in the art of war.
