About
Anxious, awkward and an absolute mess when it comes to normal (debatable) conversation, Charlie, real name Chai'tra, is a poorly put-together, poorly conducted, poor Zeta Galaxy Person. An optimistic little light, he takes to his occupation quite well as he has a childish demeanor himself, way too used to navigating a younger crowd between the first several years in the caverns and working with students nowadays. Talking to his more often serious, no-nonsense, pessimistic peers is nerve-wracking in itself, universe-forbid he even think about his romantic life. He's a sweetheart though so while one might find his social difficulties and constant stress annoying, he's difficult to hate: always there in a time of need with an encouraging word or a pick-me-up. One can return the favour by letting him talk their ear off about the unimportant small fact of the week he's currently obsessing over. Like Blackberries...
He's a teacher at the Cosmolotl School for Galaxy People on Aster (their homeplanet), tasked with looking after the students and establishing communication between the human staff and GP. He's a nervous wreck doting on the younglings, usually counted on for 'babysitting' duty and a biology teacher that substitutes every couple of weeks. He's in charge of detention and known for being way too much of a softie to properly punish students.
Background
Everything from birth to very early childhood is a bit hazy, a mess of darkness and the occasional scary loud noise One of his first memories is sitting in the birthing caverns surrounded by little ones and their collective fear of the dark nursing the first sparks of the Aurora Borealis talent out of him. Sparks turn to solid lights turn to tiny lightshows for entertainment until the humans discover them and little Charlie walks out with a small light permanently affixed above his head like a bulb. He's shy but quite taken with humans and their weird possessions, curious about the whole world in fact, so it proves easy to coax him into comfortability as long as he has something to tinker with. But he refuses to go far from the other children. The younger ones especially, who trust their night light with a lot.
It comes down to getting through to the babysitter to get to the babies. Thankfully Charlie, so named by his favourite researcher, is as soft as they come and he picks a human to cling to as per protocol. A sweetheart and a teacher's pet, he gravitates more easily to the human part of Aster's mixed society, not fond of dangerous adventures and is rather drawn to sitting in some stuffy corner with a much too big book balanced on his small lap. It's why when the school on Aster opens, he's one of the first and best students. And later, an eager candidate for the position of teacher, as expected. He'd always been a nurturer. Hearing about the long-gone Skelleteenies faction, he has to wonder...
