Biography

River and Stream were born in the depths of the underground Octarian cities that are below Octo Canyon and Inkopolis. As children, they were outcasts, rejected for looking different. They were raised by their loving parents, Abyss, a commoner Southern Pygmy Squid, and Leviathan, outcast prince and heir to the royal Octarian throne. Their home lives were fine as children, they had a happy home. It was when it came to school and having a social life that they struggled with. From children to teens, the twin sisters were severely bullied by the other students. Nobody ever spoke to them, and even the teachers didn’t like the two very much. So, they found solace in each other. They both buried themselves in their studies, and came upon the topic of history. In particular, the subject of the ancient humans that used to rule the globe before any of their kind came along. Humans fascinated them, and eventually, they came upon what humans used to speak. Some time passed, and they both learned that there were many human languages, and the one that fascinated them the most was “English.”

As teenagers, they both began to study English, and by the time they hit adulthood, it was their secret language that they would talk to one another with. Once they hit adulthood, they were set on becoming historians on human language, and sharing it with the world. Then they heard the Calamari Inkantation for the first time.

When they had first hit eighteen, the twins were both surprised to have received an invitation to a concert by their estranged grandfather, DJ Octavio. Neither of them had ever talked to him before, and their father never spoke of him. Leviathan was extremely hesitant to let them go to the concert, but Abyss persuaded him otherwise. When River and Stream went to the concert, they saw a huge mech with their grandfather playing music in it! He spoke of taking over the Inkling world, and taking everyone from the underground up with him. This didn’t sit right with the two. They were both half Inkling, and felt that Octavio meant well, but was going the wrong way about it. But before they could grab a mic and start trying to talk reason to their grandfather, an Inkling in fancy clothing came out of nowhere, and started to fight him for the land above. And then, they heard music. A familiar melody that seemed to be etched into their hearts played, with two unfamiliar singers at the top of a truck going along with it. The song they sang reverberated throughout the crowd, and through the twins as well. Before they had realized it, they were singing along and had forgotten about the fight for the most part. By the time either sibling realized that the song had ended, Octavio was being carried away by the Inkling and the musicians. As everyone exited the stadium in excitement, River and Stream were shaken. They had just met their grandpa, only to hear a song they couldn’t shake from their minds. And there was something new that they wanted to pursue. They wanted to go to the surface, and pursue music.

As River and Stream arrived home, the two told their father of what had happened, and they now wanted to pursue music. Leviathan, the top music producer for Kraken Records, was taken aback at first at their newfound passion and the request. For most of his life, he had tried to get the siblings into music, but it just didn’t stick with them. But after hearing the right song, the twins were ready. Leviathan was willing to teach them music. So, for two years, they practiced with a guitar and a keytar, until they felt themselves willing and ready. Once the news broke out that Octarians and other underground people were leaving the cities below for the cities above, River and Stream moved from the underground below and for the Inkopolis above. What blew them away though, was seeing other Inktolings like them.

Once they had come to the surface, both girls were flabbergasted. Sure, there were Octolings, and Inklings, but they had never seen other inktolings. For their entire lives, they had thought that they were the only ones out there of their kind! This gave them a newfound confidence in themselves, and quickly discovered that there was a new city cropping up a day away from Inkopolis, and it was called Oceanica. They only stayed a week in Inkopolis temporarily, before quickly leaving and finding a new apartment in Oceanica. Once they hit Oceanica, they quickly released their first single underneath their new duo name “Lev1athan”, and dubbed the new song “Inktoling Frenzy,” which was a hit much to their surprise. Their popularity quickly skyrocketed in Oceanica, and before they knew it, they were given an offer by the local news station to host the new and upcoming news show, “Oceanica News!” They quickly took it up, and became the idols you see today.

These days, they host the Oceanica News, have concerts, and write hit singles for everyone to enjoy, in particular, those who feel alone. If you feel alone, you can rest knowing that River and Stream have your back anywhere, anytime!
