Day is an angel from a very insular tribe of angels who tend to only reach outside their community to arrange marriages for their children. Any sort of interaction with the rest of the world is shunned (and punished), but in spite of this Day loves to sneak out and learn about the world.
The punishment he receives tends to take the form of physical abuse. His parents are his primary caretakers but the nature of his tribe has everyone taking responsibility for every child or young adult, and he's been cruelly beaten at the hands of most of them. As his transgressions grew worse the punishments did; he often gets beaten within an inch of his life and then healed the next day. This does discourage him for a while but he always ends up leaving for the city again in the end.
He's very short, and due to this is always seen wearing two inch heels. They don't really add much to his height, but he still insists on wearing them.
