A brilliant and cranky mathematician introvert, Hannah never thought she'd be one to help save the world, let alone help save it in such unconventional and eccentric methods and with the thorn in the side that's been her lab partner for a decade. After drifting with her colleague and a newborn kaiju, Hannah's struggling to sort out her memories from everything else, on top of making sure a certain other doctor doesn't go mad from two kaiju drifts.
History
Born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, June 9 1989. Third of four children; older brother Dietrich and sister Karla, younger brother Bastien. Parents scientists. Father, Dr. Lars Gottlieb, participated in Jaeger Project [q.v.] and is now overseeing Pacific Perimeter Program of Wall construction and civil defense infrastructure improvement. Displayed early aptitude for abstract mathematics, completed studies at TU Berlin in engineering and applied sciences. Wrote programming code for first-generation Jaeger operating systems. Has constructed highly accurate models predicting frequency of kaiju attacks. Also responsible for advances in understanding the physics and structure of the Breach itself. Refer Operation Pitfall dossier [highly classified]. Psych evaluation reveals fundamental need to create distance between self and any problem, using data and mathematics as buffer. Obsessive neatness of person and workspace also reveals the impulse to maintain controlling distance. Currently estranged from father due to differences of opinion about value of Jaeger project as opposed to Pacific Perimeter Program. 2013-2015 Hannah is twenty four at the time of the August 10, 2013 Kaiju attack in San Francisco. During the start of the Kaiju attacks and the formation of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, Hannah begins to communicate with Newton Geiszler through written correspondence. The two maintain a tight rapport through their letters for the next three years. In 2015, Hannah joins the Jaeger Academy. 2017 In 2017, Hannah decides to meet Newton in person. However, when they come to face to face, they immediately dislike each other and presumably parted ways. Pan Pacific Defense Corps Hannah is said to have written the programming code for the Mark-1 series of Jaegers. In 2020, she and Newton are assigned to the Hong Kong Shatterdome. She works alongside Newton to determine the weaknesses of the Kaiju and is responsible for determining the exact physics and nature of the breach. Gottlieb’s expertise includes predicting the number of attacking Kaiju and determining the precise time and location of their next attack. By 2025, the Jaeger Program is considered a failure and is shutdown by the United Nations. With eight months funding left in the Jaeger Program and most of the Shatterdomes closed down, Hannah and Newton are the last of the research division. --------------------- Inveterate filer of complaints, primarily against Kaiju Science colleague Dr. Newton Geiszler [q.v.]. PPDC psychological staff recommends accepting but not acting on these complaints. Hannah is of Jewish descent but does not actively practice the religion. Hannah is an analytic and fastidious scientist. Her penchant for order makes her difficult to work with. Hannah is dismissive of Newton’s enthusiasm for the Kaiju, and takes offense whenever Newton mocks her hesitation to act with little information and reliance on numbers. Her complete reliance on facts relative to Newton’s unorthodox methods with regards to Kaiju research usually puts them at odds. Hannah leads a relatively introverted lifestyle that is completely dedicated to her work. Her neatness is a way of maintaining control of her environment. Initially, Hannah considers Newton an irritation, but the two reconcile when Newton’s Drifting theory is proven correct. Since Hannah’s drift with Newton and the kaiju, she has suffered occasional panic attacks and a sense of disconnection when away from the lab for extended periods of time or significant distances away. While she has sought out basic post-Drift assistance from both medical and psych staff, she has not agreed yet to more extensive procedures, such as an MRI. When Pentecost made the decision to use the last of the time the PPDC had to close the breach, they mutually broke off the relationship. Hannah is really good at pool. She played a lot in college, you know, when she had the free time to do such things. Hannah secretly likes electro swing music, which she likely picked up from far reaching genres of music Newt probably plays in the lab. Hannah has never had McDonald’s. Hannah played piano during her childhood. Hannah has an impressive crush on Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds. Playlist
