thorne grew up far away from rosewood on an apple farm with his parents and many siblings. he had a natural divinity for gardening and was brought up on the essentials of farming. his older siblings taught him how to hunt bugs and fish from the rivers during his freetime. while his family owned a strictly apple-growing farm, thorne's love for all plants, fruits, and vegetables came after his father took him on a trip to the farmer's market to sell their products. after that, he knew he wanted to start his own garden shop, but kept that dream quiet because he knew his parents wouldn't be too happy to hear he wanted to leave the family business.
with the help of his much more accepting siblings, thorne would eventually move out to the quaint town of rosewood to kickstart his dream. he was a natural smooth-talker, so the villagers instantly fell in love with him -- everyone except for kenzie, who he would grow to share a type of friendly rivalry with. eventually, he would foster another, much less friendly rivalry with garden-shop competitor leif the sloth, who housed his store right across the railroad tracks in the shopping district.
thorne's business was a booming success from the get-go. he specialized in selling whole fruits (including apples, of course) as well as homemade products like jellies and jams. he also took up growing flowers, succulents, and other house-plants to sell in his shop.
