FORM

Yuuki wears a lace blouse under a woven sweater with a skirt and a pair of mary jane's. Her legs are prosthetics, and she appears to have had a transpelvic amputation. She looks rather delicate on the surface: snow-like skin, silky-soft white hair, and a dainty frame that is reminiscent of a porcelain doll's.

It is only when one looks closer, however, that small pecularities begin to stand out.

Her eyes are pitch black and do not reflect any light. Her skin is cold and clammy with a blue-ish tint, and, upon further inspection, really is just densely packed snow. Her hair also easily comes off upon the slightest touch, revealing it to be finely shaved ice. Even her prosthetic legs are used to hide the fact that her lower body is made from mist. This ruse is nothing more than an "outer shell" to hide her true form: a shriveled ice mummy.

Story

Yuuki was once a prosperous noblewoman from the Fujiwara clan of the Nara period, specifically the Hokke Branch. However, she was dissatisfied with the confines of her social status and often longed to live the "free" life of the lower class. She especially detested her arranged marriage and wanted nothing to do with the courting practices of her husband to-be, as she found him ugly and crass. It also didn't help that the matrimonial ties between husband and wife were rather loose during that time period, and this reality frequently clashed with her romantic disposition.

Unable to bear the thought of entering a loveless marriage, Yuuki fled home the night before her marriage ceremony in the midst of winter. She reasoned that she would give herself a new life in one of the small villages past the steep hills that surrounded her city. There, she would be free to love and be loved by whoever she wanted.

Unfortunately, her impractical nature was what killed her in the end.

Although Yuuki was able to escape, she did so with a meager amount of materials that she naively thought would be suitable for traveling. Coupled with her inexperience in rationing food, it didn't take long for her supplies to run out. She perished within the Shakadō Pass shortly after from a mixture of hypothermia and fatigue.

A thousand years of isolation has left her lonely, with no one but the frozen corpses that decorate her home to talk to. Even though she craves companionship, the nature of her species often causes her to eat those she comes into contact with. By the time she comes to her senses, what was once a promising friend is reduced to yet another dead body to add to her growing collection.

Trivia

  • Yuuki was 16 years old when she died and thus still has the mindset of a teenager
  • She becomes easily infatuated with others, especially if they show her any sort of kindness. She's also a sucker for a pretty face
  • Everything on her person comes from her victims. The clothes she died with have decayed too much for wear, and their remenants are frozen alongside her own corpse
  • Without her prosthetics on, she floats around at a height of 4'8". This was how tall she was when she was alive
  • Yuuki is selectively mute and communicates primarily through writing. When she does decide to speak, her voice is crisp and clear
  • Her name is a pun! Although it sounds like the Japanese word for snow, the kanji that makes up her name means "distant hope"
  • When she was alive, she went by the name Fujiwara Miyu (藤原美夕). After her death and reformation as a yokai, she threw away her old name and renamed herself in an effort to forget her past
