Cinnabar

Chrissy asked me to design Cinnabar and I was OVERJOYED at the prospect so I dove right in!!! I love love love designing characters hot diggety dog this was fun

I had a ghost of an idea of what Cinnabar could look like when I read Ch 11 of Tourmaline, but I essentially had to start from scratch, besides some personality descriptions Chrissy sent over (that were awesome and super helpful). But unlike with Tourmaline, who I basically designed as a straightforward (and quite literal) mix between Steven and Peridot on all counts (aka already established designs), I kinda had to go from the ground up with this.

I'll see if I can wrangle up a description from Chrissy at some point, so for now, I highly recommend reading her fic!

From a design perspective, I made her pretty fire nation-looking, about halfway on purpose. I assumed she worked for Yellow Diamond given Peridot’s and Jasper’s clear affiliation, and how Cinnabar acted as a higher-up to those two in the fic. Although rather than a fire nation character, she ended up resembling Lin Bei Fong a little more, at least in looks. When I mentioned this to Chrissy while I was still working on sketches she agreed that that’s the sorta feel she had in mind too, so I guess I hit the mark!
