Miranda

Miranda is technically a new character and technically a really old character; more specifically, she's a reincarnation of an old and barely used character of mine, but there's not much resembalance between the two now besides in motifs.

Several years ago, an old group of friends and I were into making roleplay sites for ourselves that ripped off the concepts from the Warriors series (yes, the one with cats, I had that phase) by having four clans of some sort of species doing whatever it is we had them do. One of these sites set the scenario in a medieval fantasy universe and had a species going named the Dreamts, who were humanesque creatures that had the vague abilities of being able to do anything, lived separately from humans as humans often considered them monsters, and had their souls in two parts; one in the dreamt itself, and the other part in a dragon companion. It was a pretty cool concept looking back at it, if it had only not confined itself to ripping off the Warriors.

Besides having the four clans as four tribes based around the seasons, I also had the idea to incorporate the series' purgatory of sorts by envisioning a secret fifth group of dreamts who were rejected from the typical afterlife and resurrected by a certain dreamt; these dreamts all had pale skin and changed names from their original lives, and most of them had a venagence against the other dreamt tribes. The character Miranda comes from was one of these, an extremely long-haired lady with a generally quiet and mysterious but somewhat unpleasant personality who had the backstory of being a normal dreamt until gaining amnesia and being found and influenced by some other dreamt into using her abilities for evil, until she died when a poisonous dart sunk into her throat. Not the worst thing I've come up with but far from impressive.

The reason any of this matters beside being fun trivia is that when this character was re-concepted, I was looking for a character to fit the dynamic of an area of the RESA universe, and most of my existing characters didn't quite work well with it. But I found the original characters' name in a list of old characters, and I decided that what little existed of its character could be reshaped into something that would work for this endeavor. Though the end result isn't the same character as before, I'm still going to consider her the reincarnation of it.

Miranda's a recent developement, but I'm looking forward to developing her character as time goes on because I like what I have going so far. Perhaps after some time spent in RESA, she'll be developed enough that I'll know what kind of places she'll belong in a writing universe.

Story

I'm proud of this characters' new backstory, but I'm going to skip it for now for that reason; I want to retain the element of suspense and surprise for now.

So, about the character herself; she's an employee at the Magnolian Palace, the place where the leader/ruler of the country lives and operates. The palace is, to say the least, a very interesting place in the RESA world. Not only has it literally been damaged and/or attacked at least four times so far, but its methods of operation are, well, unique to say the least. And the staff are no exception; though the majority of them are regular hires, a select group of them are former (or even still basically are) criminals bound to contracts in which they are granted a pardon for their crimes in exchange for a set number of service years inside the palace.

Personality

Miranda is one of these contract-bound employees, but she'd rather not talk about it or be labelled that way, and has been working there for four years out of six. She's an optimistic and ambitious, motivated person who's developed both physically and mentally from a corrupted child into a mature adult that learned to think for herself since her arrival at the palace. Her field area is helping and assisting with planning around the palace, but she has also been ongoingly studying architecture and found her true calling in musical instruments, of which she's taught herself with the help of instructional books to play both the pan flute and violin, and is currently working on incorporating piano as well. She likes to imagine her future outside the palace a lot, as she plans to go to college and start a career in music, and the thoughts of all the things she wants to do keeps her motivated from day to day. Her demeanor varies depending on who she's around; in the presence of visitors and higher-ups, she tends to have a calm, collected, and professional but somewhat insincere attitude, often keeping a smile on her face whether she means it or not. In the presence of her fellow staff members, she lets herself be more genuine and relaxed, doing whatever feels natural. I also like to imagine her sense of humor as sarcastic and full of fake insults.

Like said before, that's the idea I have going right now; she hasn't roleplayed much, but she has a lot of potential for further exploration, and I'm excited to see it as it unfolds.
