Overview

Wisdom does not inherently come with age. Ferelith, who once failed to notice that the room she was in was actively on fire as her companions gently led her out of it and mostly just falls on her face every time she wields the sword she recently picked up, is three-thousand-year-old living proof.

It would not be your fault for assuming Ferelith better suited her flowing gowns, the elegant way she carries herself, the ancient accent testing modern tongue, the physical traits that identify her certainly as dragonkin. Presentation comes naturally to her through unwarranted confidence and a general lackadaisy that keeps her from overthinking what she does (largely because she isn't thinking at all). She holds onto her timeless grace so well that you might not notice that she struggles with simple arithmetic, uses showing off her sword to solve most problems whether or not the situation warrants waving weapons around, prioritizes flashy maneuvers over basic combat skills, and ignores and/or fails to notice most things that aren't within arm's reach.

And while Ferelith seems off in her own world more often than not, detached from anyone, anything, or anywhere, perhaps there is a method to some of the madness; human lives are like candles compared to the burning bonfire of a dragon's time. A village built on ancient ash, the cracked stone set in her breastplate, the distinct scrapes on her immaculate blade stand as proof of the unspoken, unrecorded history Ferelith carries. Seeking answers, she asks no questions, and takes up arms she treats more like a shiny new toy and joins the Shedor kingdom's militia—for now. So enchanted by her new weapon, she leaves a simple answer for why a simple mind doesn't (or can't?) make use of the draconic power within her.

World Info

Ferelith is a Fire Emblem OC in an original continent, Shedor, which uses the series' tropes. The canon-blind should understand Shedor as a JRPG-style swords and sorcery "fantasy medieval Europe" sort of setting, with a story focusing on warlike combat. It contains a variety of sapient animal-human beings, including laguz, humanoids with mild animalistic features and the ability to take on animal forms; and taguel, essentially furries whose default form is beastly but take on a more humanoid form by storing their power in stones. Manaketes are more similar to the latter; they are dragons with lifespans of tens of thousands of years, whose longevity and immense power is doomed to drive them mad and turn them into feral beasts unless they put that power away into stones and take on human forms. They may take on their dragon form temporarily by using their dragonstones without risks.

Their longevity and immense power are factors in their influence over the continent's history. Noble manakete families are as old as record itself. Not only have they shaped Shedor from its beginning, but their race has a monopoly over its monarchy. Because of their long lifespans and the fact that the kingdom is predominantly made up of more fleeting races, they are permitted a few centuries' worth of rule before being allowed to choose a successor to take up the throne. This is not always a matter of inheritance through relation. The current queen, whom Ferelith serves as part of the royal militia, is reaching the end of her rule.

Ferelith does not belong to any particular noble lineage herself, but her status as a manakete inherently affords her leeway and respect she would absolutely not receive otherwise.

Appearance Notes

Please use this piecce as a primary reference!

  • Lots of earrings on both her pointed ears; they very rarely match each other.
  • Mole under her bottom lip on her left side.
  • Fanged teeth visible when she grins, and while she's capable of a polite and lovely smile, all of her grins are either goofy or she looks like she's going to eat you alive.
  • Armor is for style over function; the arm/shoulder armor in her primary references was inspired primarily by this look.
abridged version, to be expanded
  • ferelith has always been a moron
  • lived among humankind even in the ancient days when dragon rule was absolute and they were at their loftiest and most untouchable
  • lived specifically in a nowheresville village so she didn't have to keep up with the nobility; probably split from other manaketes specifically to get away from stupid noble politics
  • fell in love with a human, was a stepmother to her partner's children, established a very happy life, and absolutely was not ready for the reality that she would outlive all of them until they died
  • you know that thing where manaketes are so OP that their powers will eventually drive them to madness and turn them into feral beasts? yeah
  • so a few things lead to another and ferelith transforms, completely loses control of herself, and does a whole lot of collateral damage before she expends all the durability of her dragonstone and it shatters
  • because she's so young in manakete terms, her power is relatively low, so once it's gone and destroyed with her shattered dragonstone, she goes more or less back to normal; her power wasn't strong enough for degeneration to really get past preliminary phases, but she was too young and stupid and upset to resist it
  • fearful of letting anything like that happen again, ferelith works to just sort of let go of whatever worldly concerns she has and be stupid and airy so she doesn't get attached to anything and feel pain like that again (or cause problems like that again, but she can't transform anymore so she really isn't capable of it anymore)
  • this is all like 1,500 years ago and she remains a dumb bitch to this day
  • Swordsmanship (debateable).
  • While she's adjusted perfectly well to modern terminology, her speech still has some holdovers from ancient times. In the tabletop game she was played with, this was conveyed via a bad, vaguely-British accent.
  • She makes the occasional "Illi-deez nuts" jokes, even though the continent Illides is pronounced ill-uh-des. It won't stop her. She won't listen.
