Riley can be very quiet, but will pipe up if she has something to say. She can be stoic sometimes, but that’s really only if you don’t pay attention to her or if you don’t know her very well. If someone gets in her way, she is not afraid to kick their ass. She can be very rough and tough, but once you get to know her she opens up a lot more.

-- Backstory --
Riley grew up in Matamoros, Mexico. Her mom and herself lived under the poverty line, often struggling to get food and basic needs for their family. She dropped out of school in ninth grade to help her mom by getting a job. Riley had heard about illegal immigrants crossing the border into the United States, and what they had to say about jobs and the industry there. After saving enough money, Riley had her mom and herself smuggled across the border. They eventually ended up in Chicago, Illinois (United States).
Before Riley had dropped off out of school, she often got into trouble by stealing or causing general ruckus with other troublesome kids. After Riley fully realized the situation in which they were in (her mother always tried to make light of things), she dropped out of school, straightened up her act, and got a job as a helper on a fisherman’s boat.
Riley’s former name is Santiago, as it was the name she was given at birth. When they went to the U.S. her mother and herself both changed their names to be more American sounding. Another reason why Riley changed her name was because she realized she was transgender, and no longer wanted a masculine sounding name.
Riley’s dad passed away before she was born due to a fishing accident.

Riley lives with her mom in an apartment in Chicago, Illinois, United States. She works at a local Mexican restaurant as her English is limited, and the other workers speak Spanish. Her mother works at a department store. They don't have a lot of income, but they're used to getting by on not a lot.
-- How Riley met Carmel --
As Riley was being trained at the restaurant, Carmel came in to eat. Carmel started having an interest in her, and came in more often. Eventually she asked her on a date, and Riley accepted. The connection they had with eachother was helped by Carmel speaking fluent Spanish, so they started to become close. (The only people Riley talked to was her coworkers and mother, so she didn't have a lot of friends). They've been dating for many years now, and are in a great relationship.
