ABOUT HIM
The reluctant hero trope ramped up to eleven, Akio is the saviour of a world he doesn’t care enough about to save. Hardened by years of southern farm work (and sure, I guess surviving two years in the literal end of times), he’s unsympathetic at best and a downright asshole at worst. He doesn’t try to be liked, partially because he doesn’t need to try, saviour of the world and all, but mostly because he just doesn’t care. He’ll kick your knees out and feed you to the wolves if he has to. The only thing he seems to care about is his dog. named Dog.
Despite his personality though, there’s no denying that he’s practical and efficient. He’s attuned to the messed up world in an intrinsic way; he'll knows his way around the cities and tourist spots like an old taxi driver, despite it being his first time travelling there. There’s something beyond the exterior he portrays, and in the rare moments when he smiles, or lets a somber secret of his slip past, it might just seem like there’s more to him than just being irritating.

Akio is a child of the Earth, of roots & corpses tugging him back into the soil.
Misfortune has always followed him. Not just superficial bad luck, but bone deep and visceral MISFORTUNE in all capital letters. At first, it was a horrible accident- a house fire without a cause. Akio had slept through it and in the morning when he woke to lungfuls of smoke and soot blackened over the photos in his room, his floorboards and walls peeling off in a grotesque rejection of its own existence, but his bed untouched. They had called it an act of God: a miracle by his hand that this child had survived unharmed, and they would hand him a bible and ask him to pray and thank Him. Pray for what? He wondered. Why would he thank Him for the deaths of his parents? The complete upheaval of his life, and if the thought of it, the beginning of his MISFORTUNE? So, in the end, it was the days after his parents deaths that Akio decided that he fucking hated God.
