- Backstory
- grew up in a stable family with his older sister
- went to law school and became a private investigator to follow in his father's footsteps
- when he was in his twenties, both of his parents died in a car crash
- sister became a single parent with two children, while Joseph became highly successful in his field
- sister died of an illness, leaving Joseph to raise her kids
- despite not having much experience with children, he and the kids got along pretty well
- while dealing with a case involving the mafia, he was assassinated
- instead of his soul being sent to the afterlife like most, he was recruited as a reaper, due to his skills and work ethic he displayed when he was alive
- in the beginning, it was fine as he tended to only focus on taking the lives of criminals
- however, it became much harder to do when he soon found that he'd also have to reap the souls of innocent people, who still wanted to live
- he once brought a sick child back to life on her supposed death bed within his first few years of the job
- Death was angered by this, and cast a curse on Joseph that put him through immense pain for days
- since then Joseph has mostly abstained from using his resurrection ability, instead just trying to make the deaths of innocents as blissful and painless as possible, only using resurrection in very rare circumstances
- since he didn't want his niece and nephew to be completely abandoned with no one to raise them, and also didn't want to risk people trying to hurt them for being associated with him, he had dropped them off at an orphanage, and vowed to find them good adoptive parents
- in Logston, there had been a number of deaths, but none of the souls had made it to the afterlife, so Joseph had been sent over there to investigate and stop whatever's been collecting the souls
- Likes and dislikes:
- Likes: reaping the souls of those who are genuinely horrible, tea, suits, novels, nature documentaries
- Dislikes: alcohol, his boss (aka death), being away from his niece and nephew, people fearing him (unless it's a hardened criminal or something along those lines)
- Strengths and Weaknesses
- Strengths: teleportation, intangibility, is able to sense when someone dies, can create illusions, has access to the files of everyone who has died up until the present day, highly professional, resurrection (tho he can't use it too much due to death's threat of immense torture and the possibility of him losing his status, abilities and memories as a reaper), really good with his scythe
- Weaknesses: death himself, can still get powers revoked by death, can still be damaged by attacks that impact the soul
