Blackstar was always a serious, hard worker. He never played as much as the other kits and took his training very seriously when he was an apprentice, and even learned how to speak badger during this time, though no one is quite sure how he managed this. As a young warrior, he was an obvious candidate for the deputy position.

Blackswoop eventually got the position when the previous deputy died. As expected, he was a very good choice and WindClan ran smoothly while he was second in command. Everything was going wonderfully, and this was when he met Antfeather.

Antfeather was the kind, happy-go-lucky deputy of ThunderClan. At first, Blackswoop looked down on him, but the small tom was persistent in offering his friendship and Blackswoop eventually gave in. The two grew close enough to start meeting at the border.

When WindClan's leader died and Blackswoop became Blackstar, Antfeather was ecstatic for him, though sad that Sootstar had died. They couldn't meet at the border as often but their bond grew stronger anyway and suddenly, without really noticing the shift, the two were a couple. They were hesitant to call themselves mates but considered themselves together regardless, though loosely. Although it makes them both feel guilty, they couldn't imagine a life without each other. They hide the fact that they're in love and it hurts them but neither could leave their clans considering their ranks. So they try to make it work without anyone finding out.
