Lorina has few personal posessions. Most of them she only owns out of necessity, and even those are bought 2nd-hand. The only items she has that do not fall into this category are a very small collection of books she managed to save from when she was kicked out. They were gifts to her from her grandfather, and she wouldn't part with them for the world (especially the oldest ones). The oldest out of all of them Lorina is certain her Grandfather recieved from his father.

Current/Present Story (The Start)

Lorina is 17 whenever her life takes a drastic, and possibly its strangest, turn.
Her life had always been hard. There was always something that seemed to be going awry. When she was younger, it was arguments with her parents that sometimes escalated to violence. Now, it was keeping up with both school, work, rent, and having enough food to live, all with no external support from anyone.

A particularly bad month eventually lead to her being fired from her job, leaving her with no money, right before the rent is due and with no food in her small apartment. This was not counting any of the other expenses that were also quickly approaching. On top of all of this, she still has school to deal with, something which she that she is failing at in more than one capacity.

To try and calm herself, she picked up one of the books that her grandfather had given her. Specifically, the oldest out of the collection. It wasn't one that she touched often, she always felt like the thing was going to fall apart whenever she held it. But, simultainiously, it was the the one that felt the most sturdy, as if it would last forever. She began to silently read through it, turning the pages one at a time. Eventually she came across one that stood out to her. She sat a moment, considering for a brief second 'What If' but ultimately shrugged, and read it aloud- if nothing else, it might be cathardic.

History

Lorina was kicked out of her family home when she was 14. Her mother was the one to actively make the decision to disown and sever all ties with Lorina. Her father, while he did not actively participate, did not take any action to prevent it. This was after a particularly heated argument/"discussion" with her mother about how the stories in The Bible could be interpreted, and right before her mother's discovery of some books that Lorina's grandfather had given her. Lorina managed to save these books when she was, almost literally, kicked out of the house.

After Lorina was disowned she had to wander around, homeless, for some time. During this time, she approached several landlords and landladies in an attempt to find a place to live. Eventually, she met Merihem, who let her stay as a tennant in her complex. While Merihem did require some 'rent' from Lorina, it was more in the form of favors and tasks at first. However, as Merihem eventually changed Lorina's rent to be more standard, and as Lorina got older it became higher as well.
