The God of Death, or The Reaper, as some may refer to them, is kindred of the God of Life. Together, they work as a balance, complementing each other. It controls all aspects of Death. While they have always been seen as a bad omen throughout human history, Death is actually quite a sensitive and caring God, compared to others. Being in charge of overlooking all in the last moments of their life is a very hard job, and has put a lot of stress and anguish on them especially during times of famine and war. Death used to take on the form of a much more terrifying, demon-like creature, deciding to simply adopt the stereotype of being an ugly, horrifying destroyer of families and happiness. Eventually, as humans became more self aware of the circle of life it was seen as a simpler process, one that could be beautiful despite sometimes unforgiving. Death decided that it'd rather live its eternity out as something less threatening.

Appearance

The choice is take on a form akin to a human body was made in order to help those become more content with their death when met with it. Despite this, it still has trouble understanding how to make things easier for everyone. It still wants to appear godly and has some semblance of the power it holds, so it takes on some things that is generally associated with death - such as its scythe, and crow-like features.

Reputation and Personality

Despite being a part of every living creature, Death has such a terrible reputation among the Gods and Angels that live in Heaven - it tries it's best to be liked and to explain that despite how much it hurts, death is an important part of life. Therefore, it mostly keeps to itself. Its older God sibling, Life, often mocks its reputation in comparison to its own - which is beloved, and seen as one of the most important Gods of all. It would be much easier to represent the gift of Life, rather than the unfortunate end of a creature's life. Behind its mask hides its somewhat horrifying mouth, which gives the kiss of death to those that it visits in their final moments. It's so afraid of accidentally using this power on others that aren't ready, so it crafted the mask to keep it hidden, however also rendering its ability to talk useless and muffled. It doesn't bother them though, as visitors as so rare as seemingly everyone on the Heavenly plain are afraid of it.

Death is sympathetic of those that meet their demise, despite everyone's impression that they somehow enjoy or feed off of things dying. They find no joy in overseeing things dying, often being witness to horrifying and gruesome ends. Therefore, they are very desensitized to things and have trouble understanding why others fear Death so much when it's such a normal occurrence to them.

Relationships

"Life is like that sibling that breaks the vase and you get the blame for it.. but at least its not afraid of me."

Death and Life are, obviously, both made to work together in harmony. They both came into existance around the same time, Life being born first and constantly bringing it up. They got along just fine for centuries, but Life eventually got snootier as time went on. It constantly makes fun of Death as, compared to its own status, Death's is quite morbid and unwanted. Life demands Death around, making it do things it doesn't want to through blackmail and threats. However, Life is the only one that'll actually interact with Death, so in a sense it is its' only friend.
