Hazelkit was born to loving parents and an average life. He was a typical kit, and then a typical apprentice, yet one with a leadership streak. Early into apprenticehood, he became the de facto leader for the other apprentices. At first he used his powers for evil - he and his friends liked to cause a little bit of mischief every now and then, and would accept the punishments gracefully because they knew they deserved them most of the time. But as they grew older, they matured, and he began to lead them onto the path of being responsible warriors instead.

The leader at the time, Flowerstar, was impressed by the young cat's natural skill but had to give the deputy position to an older, more experienced cat. Hazelsky wasn't put off by this and was content to just be the best warrior he could be, silently hoping he'd get his chance one day. After the first deputy willingly dropped out of the position to have kits, Hazelsky was still passed up for another cat. Again, he congratulated them genuinely - he knew it was a huge honor to be picked as ThunderClan's future leader, and not just any warrior would get that opportunity, regardless of how good they were.

The next time, tragedy struck and the deputy was killed in an accident. Finally, Hazelsky was picked. He just wished it was under better circumstances. Eventually, after a long reign, Flowerstar lost her last life and Hazelsky became Hazelstar.
