After Crescendo's betrayal, Aurem needed a new champion, and who better than one of Crescendo's own children? Gale became the subject of a new experiment of Aurem's posing a simple question: how much can she give to a bird before something breaks? Turns out, more than enough. Gale was aged up (via magic, somehow) and granted some potent magic shit, quickly trained and run through the usual Aur'Ku ringer; he passed with flying colors. He was raised on friendly terms with Aurem and Angel fully aware of his destiny. In a way, he's everything that Resolve and Crescendo aren't: Confident, approachable, and only reasonably determined. He lacks the perfectionist nature and the pressure of expectations and plagues the other two, has access to even arguable 'dangerous' information through Aurem and Angel, and knows exactly what is expected of him, and what course he needs to follow.

Symphony Movment II

True to his bloodline, Gale threw his fears to the side and made the all important roll to give up his soul to become Frost's angel; and succeed. A strong sens eof purpose, loyalty, and just enough determination, though not without his doubts. His very sens eof self is now on the line, and he knows it. The price to pay, perhaps, for doing what needs done.

Epilouge: Rubato

Gale died a hero. parallel to Coo. a damn good bird. Zeta was killed for her diloyalty. Coo fought back against Aurem. Gale was killed *because* he was loyal to a fault. he was willig. He did everything he could againjst immeasurable odds. nary two years old... and look what he did. Lookl what he stood up to, learned, and began. Like birds who have come ebfore, Gale too could easily be considered... loyal, to the very end.

---------------------

Gale was whipped up in like an hour and a half as a means of gaining exposition and keeping up with Aurem stuff. Similar to Angel and Zeta, he seems to be somewhere in between a character and a borrowed NPC. His exact role and fate are as of yet unknown, which is neat considering Creac and Resolve have always had some sort of destinty; certainly themes of it. then theres Gale, where botht he player and DM still arne't entirly sure what to do with him. Maybe he'll be important, maybe he wont.
Also, I totally called it, he is Coo reincarnated! Hopefully, he can live up to Coo's legacy!

Appearance

Gale stands at slightly above average height (~3.5 ft, size small) and bears dull red (Gotta consult DM. The artist in me wants oranges and yellows too) plumage rather than the usual white. (His skin is either white or light gray, gotta consult DM) He has a singular, cycloptic eye colored dark gray, and the usual dark blue aur'ku chest eye. (Uh, I can't find references for cyclopia in birds, soo, use your imagination I guess.) A pair of wings, much too large for his size, allow for flight, albeit not very good flight. In order to take off, he requires a fair amount of space.

Because of the singular main eye, he relies on his chest eye for depth perception. This makes clothing and armor choice somewhat relevant.

Like most aur'ku his build is based heavily on dexterity, and although he isn't the best rouge, he makes up for that in, well, let's call it "charm," shall we?

Attire

Dark green tunic with some embroidery(?), belt with his stuff on it, modified leather armor. (That may or may not deduct an AC point?)

Silly Neck-Scarf: blue neck scarf. Surely stolen. Anime as fuck. Helps make him look more like a jackass.

Red-Feathered Cloak: Awarded to him as an admin. Not the invisibility kind. Has been modified because of his wings.

Circlet of Trinity: A copper circlet adorned with several pearls. It is currently being borrowed from Angel, and wearing it is directly tied to its use.

Personality

Confident, suave, chill, not very serious, likes talking, like seriously he talks a lot, very curious, not above playing a mild trick or two, will sling insults at folk. slight pyromaniac. Desires praise, though its not too much of a drive for him. None of his flaws are too bad. Just... present.

He has the helpful mentality of 'dont fuck up, cuz if you do it messed up everyone.' A mistake at the top opf the chain of command trickles down to impact everyone, so its important to do you best, own up to mistakes, and learn from them.

Confident: Is very confident in his abilities, but it's mostly earned. Has a bit of an ego, believes he's got an important role to play, though also accepts that he could probably be replaced if it ever came down to it.

Laid-Back: Seems to rarely take things seriously. Asshole. He'll even be super chill around Angel and Aurem. Surely to Aurem's secret annoyance, but Angel probably doesn't mind. Some of this laid-back  attitude could be part of his guise, however.

Talkative: Likes to talk. Whether it's talking shit, talking to himself, making useless comments, or telling stories. His speech isn't elegant or over the top, but instead is rather casual and grounded; he'd openly admit that much of what he says is pretty pointless.

Curious: Seemingly unbefitting of the rest of his character (perhaps can eventually be explained by Soul-stuff?), Gale is highly curious. Manifests as getting sidetracked by minor curiosities rather than as obsessive behavior, which makes him distinct from Wolf's Howl.

Haunted by the Memories of a Past Life: Takes the form of dreams. This goes away when he becomes an angel.

Phoenix Sorcerer Quirk: I didn't like any of 'em, so I made one. He feels incomplete without a phoenix by his side, soo, he's very reluctant to give up his rapier. This trait dissolves after he become an angel.

Perfection, Obsession, and Expectation: Aware of issues that plague other birds, and determined to not repeat them. And, even if he isn't aware of these flaws he still finds them notable.

Personality Paranoia: A potential side effect of becoming an angel is loosing some aspects of ones self, who you are melding with the deity you're now bound to. Gale didn't change much, is just a little less talkative, but knowledge of this looming threat and knowledge of Angel's corruption has made Gale paranoid. He made a copy of his personality profile and takes anyone's mention of any unusual behavior on his part a bit more seriously than he really should. His biggest change seems to be the fear of change itself.

Epilouge: Rubato

Descent Into Madness: He occasionally had to roll ion the madness chart, picking up various afflictions- some lasting longer than others.

Voice and Dialogue

Gale speaks unusually casually, even to the likes of Aurem and Angel, incorporating a lot of contractions and a fair amount of slang into his speech. This is all carried by a laid back, chill tone and attitude.

"So, uuh, that radiant beam thing, you know- *mimicry noises* -that thing... uh, yeah, was that, y'know, from our side, or...?"

Habits

  • Ruffles the head feathers of fledglings.
  • Attaining temporary curiosities. Not full obsession, however. Often more surface level or trivial.

Hobbies

  • Reading; mostly to gain knowledge. This knowledge is often trivial, however.
  • Music; he doesn't write it but can play fairly well.
  • Cooking; he's still figuring this one out, but man, having your own kitchen is awesome!

Likes

  • Fire, pancakes.
  • Reading, learning something new.
  • The sound of his own voice, apparently.
  • Telling stories, playing music to an audience. (That's oddly bard-ish of you, Gale...)
  • Getting praise, when he's earned it.

Dislikes

  • Orcs. They can't get bred out by changelings soon enough as far as Gale's concerned.
  • Hatchings grounds. Fuck that place. He was not treated well for his short stay there.
  • That one asshole who keeps handing him their assignments!

Goals and Motivation

  • Do his job.
  • Improve Frost's aerie.
  • Gain information about Joker... without actually running into her again, preferably.

Gen 2 Aur'Ku Features

Aur'ku Blaze: As an action (1/LR) Gale can output a 10ft radius fiery pulse around himself; DC 14 dex save, save halves, it does 3d6 fire dmg and 1d8 radiant damage, as well as displays bright light for 30ft and dim light for 30 more ft.

Flight: 20ft flight speed, required a fair bit of space to take off due to the overly-large wings.

Mark of Shadow

A strange marking seemingly burned into his feathers/ flesh; he was born with it, along with his siblings. Was passed down to him by Crescendo.
Located: Uh tbd.
Quirk: Burns slightly when activated?

Grants Him:

  • (I think it gave him stat bonuses like Cresc? But I can't remember.)
  • The ability to summon an ideal dulcimer from shadows;
  • Proficiency with a musical instrument (Dulcimer)
  • Advantage on stealth checks
  • Advantage on performance checks
  • Cha modifier (5)/ SR he can take the Hide action as a bonus action, no matter the circumstances.

Tear of Decay

Gale possesses a pure knowledge of death, granting him the understanding necessary to fuck shit up with words and charisma the universe into killing stuff for him.

Speak the word, 100ft cone, imparts various levels of "Phantom Exhaustion" on the user based on which words are used.

Krii: -2AC and -1HP per round
Krii Lun: -3AC and -2HP per round
Krii Lun Aus: -5AC and -4HP per round

Equipment

Weapons, armor, and tools:

  • Studded leather +1

On His Person:

  • Boots of elvenkind
  • Ring of Spellstoring: Comes with Sending, Angel sees to refresh it for him on occasion. Usually has Misty Step in it too.
  • Healing Potion
In His Bag:
  • Key to the locked music cabinet.
  • Borrowed book(s)
Coin Pouch:
  • Some

Phoenix Rapier

Despite his alignment meaning that his phoenix should be elemented with Ice (Like Crescendo's and Coo's) his remains aligned with fire, likely due to his phoenix sorcerer ways.

  • Has 9 Charges that refresh at dawn. Expending all of them frees the 'phoenix' which will proceed to go on a rampage, before eventually dissipating.
  • +2 to hit and damage, add an extra 1D6(?) radiant damage.
  • As a BA, with a melee attack the user can do a burst attack. Dex saving throw, 5D8 radiant damage; save halves. DC is the user's dex mod + proficiency + something else I think.... expends 2 charges.
  • As a BA the user can change the weapon into a staff. The staff can:
    • Expend __ charges for cure wounds
    • expend __ charges for mas cure wounds
    • expend __ charges for greater restoration.
    • The user can summon wings based on elemtn; limited time, +2 AC while airborn.
  • By stating an incantation the user can explode themselves and the weapon in a very dramatic fashion; damage is based on character level, spell slots, and current charges I think.

Circlet of Trinity

A copper circlet adorned with several pearls that Gale is borrowing from Angel. Usually, it contains a wish spell, a planeswalker spark, and a spark of creativity. Since Gale already has creativity, I think that the spark has been swapped out for another spell or set of spells. Gale is using the circlet to try to get information about magic out of Wolf's Howl, but so far, Wolf ain't havin' it.

Putting on the circlet will cause the wearer to seemingly fall asleep. In actuality, their.. spirit, I guess? Enter the astral plane and can wander about, though cannot interact with people or objects. Spells can be cast, but seem to do nothing. Thinking of a person or location will take the user there, but the process takes time dependant on distance. The user can planeswalker while in the astral plane. The user can enter the dreams of a sleeping creature, but that creature seems to be able to kick the user out. According to Angel, it is possible to die using the item, but Aurem claims that those odds are slim to none. In order to leave the astral plane, the user has to be within roughly 10ft of their body and remove the circlet.

Miscellaneous

Haunted by the Memories of a Past Life: Has always been plagued by horrid nightmares, and if not that, then confusing dreams. These are echoes of his past life, that of Coo, but he doesn't know that. His theories: creativity byproduct, diety talking to him (unlikely) or past life. unsure if its some combination of them. has done some research.

Vision: Relies on chest eye for depth perception.

Administrative Duties: Does paperwork, assigns missions based on what he's given, babysits flocks... Is fairly relaxed with them, totally doesn't give a shit if they keep some money for alcohol. Every flock does it, it's no big deal.
Oversees 4 flocks:

  • Ghyan: LV 3; Got messed up at first, but recovered.
  • Tha: LV 3; Standard flock.
  • Waw: LV 4; Home to 7 of his old flockmates. "A champion has arisen" from this flock. This bird was moved to Pop and Elated Squawk's flock (Which is presumably still Unity.)
  • Ya: LV 2; Underachievers and unreliable. Gale has had to baby them by sending them on easier missions.

Krii Lun: -3AC and -2HP per round

Angelic Features

Angelic Weapons: Gale's weapons are permanently buffed. They deal fire damage instead of slashing and deals an extra 5d8 cold dmg.

Shadow Stealth: When in dim light or darker can hide as a BA.

Healing Touch: Touch a creature, it gains 6d8 HP and is cured of a list of ill effects.

Divine Awareness: Gale knows if he hears a lie and can see souls.

Angelic Boon: If a nearby creature fails a d20 roll, Gale can choose to have them succeed instead.

Miscellaneous Features: Knows all normal languages, telepathy 120 ft, true sight 120ft

Soulless: Gale lacks a soul. This comes up sometimes. Might be how he lost his dragonmark.

Made of Mana: Gale is made of magic. This has... a lot of consequences. He can expend HP to refresh spell slots and passively gain HP when in high magic places. If magic is removed/nulled/ antimagic field or whatever, he starts taking damage every round. He may also be able to expend HP to give others spell slots, and has been able top expend HP to boost a spell's level. all this HP use comes out of his max HP, so it can be a bit scary at times.

Angelic Resilience: Gale is immune to being exhausted. This lets him theoretically planes walk indefinitely. Also, if he dies by normal means, Frost can just bring him back. He looses some recent memories though, and there may be other side effects that are yet unknown, since, it hasn't happened yet.

Knowledge

His Own Background and Destiny: Gale knows he's something special. Buut, he's come to terms with the fact that he's kind of replacable, too.

Music: Gale was taught how to read music by Angel and seems to have a natural affinity for it. Despite his creativity, he doesn't compose; he only plays whatever is available in the library, or whatever Angel has taught him. He views music as more of a tool than a hobby, a means of manipulating people- or, that's what he claims. He has been raised to treat the skill with caution. Music and creativity can have disastrous consequences, certainly when gifted to the wrong person.

Angel refuses to teach Gale any music that holds real value to her; anything that could potentially make an impact on him. This includes Zeta's song, anything that may have been learned from Savior, and much of her earlier works. (You know, stuff written before her character broke.)

Mark of Shadow: Naturally, he researched the strange marking and came to the same conclusion as Crescendo; the mark is passed through bloodlines, and the appearance of the mark on "lesser races" such as kenku and kobalds is a sign of the approach end of the world.

Crescendo and Her Betrayal: His mother betrayed Aurem, though... he isn't exactly sure why, yet. Tempted by freedom, perhaps? Led astray by her brother?

Wolf's Howl and His Research: His uncle clearly has a few screws loose, but he's also a damn good wizard. His notes have proved vital in Gale's own research into arcana. Wolf's betrayal makes more sense based on everything he's read and heard from others. He could be tempted by curiosity, his loyalties lying in knowledge rather than Aurem and her system.

Angel and Her Godhood: Gale was one of few who knew that Angel didn't start out as a god and was even aware of her ascension. He doesn't know much of her background, however.

Coo and His Legacy: Coo ran Unity, one of the best flocks in the airy. That's all he knows.

Equipment

Weapons, armor, and tools:

  • Cloak of greater invisibility

On His Person:

  • Boots of elvenkind
  • Ring of Spellstoring: Comes with Sending, Angel sees to refresh it for him on occasion. Usually has Misty Step in it too.
  • Cursed ring of three wishes
  • circlet of trinity
  • Healing Potion
In His Bag:
  • Key to the locked music cabinet.
  • Borrowed book(s)
Coin Pouch:
  • Some

Circlet of Trinity

A copper circlet adorned with several pearls that Gale is borrowing from Angel. Contains a planes walker spark, a wish spell, aaand... umm... hm.

Cursed Ring of Three Wishes

Cursed in the same way as Angel's ring, although this one is bound to Frost instead of Aurem. Can be used to easily communicate to Frost, which Gale uses surprisingly frequently. Gale has the sense to not wear the thing unless he's using it.

Miscellaneous

SoullessThose nightmares and confounding dreams have ceased. The remnants of who he once were seemed to have been lost along with his soul. He also can't use the astral projecting spell stuff anymore.

Dragon mark: Yeah it's gone now. He can still use Krii, but learning new words is difficult.

Vision: Relies on chest eye for depth perception.

Administrative Duties: This definitely counts as a promotion. He helps Frost run her aerie, taking on more personable tasks alongside his usual paperwork, though he's also tasked with special quests, such as gathering information on Joker or other planes.

Story

Overview

Gale is special. And he knew it, from the very beginning. He was chosen for this role, born for it. Aurem seemed to implant an adherence to his destiny in him, an abundance of confidence, though also a hint of ego as well.

Rubato

A Rushed Childhood

Gale is special. And he knew it, from the very beginning. Born to Crescendo and Elated Squawk, he was unusual even among his siblings, as he bore wings, red feathers, and had a spark of creativity, but he also only had two eyes; one on his face, and of course the one in his chest. He was also plagued by strange dreams, the nature of which he would only later discover. His time in the hatching grounds was harsh due to his unusual appearance (and likely the situation involving his mother and uncle) but was luckily cut short; Aurem had a particular plan in store for him.

Gale would be Aurem's new experiment, and hopefully in time, her new champion. Through a colorful cocktail of spells and related shenanigans he was aged up, given a bunch of magic, quickly sent through the standard aur'ku coming of age trials, and returned having performed exceptionally well, showing high leadership potential. He was gifted a phoenix rapier and given the position of second in command of a small flock in Angel's Airy, called Zay, which was lead by an inexperienced flock leader named Rattler. He and Gale practically co-ran the flock.

Gale was chosen for this role, born for it. Aurem and Angel spoke with him frequently and the former was unusually friendly with him. He was given access to music and dangerous information, and Aurem outright told him of Crescendo and Wolf's betrayal. Aurem seemed to implant an adherence to his destiny in him, an abundance of confidence, though also a hint of ego as well.

Rubato

Got summoned by a higher-up (Changling's boss, cracking crate), whow ants to chat. Gakle goes to meet with them, buut gets lost.  he hears a scream, run to it, chick kiled by an orc that managed to get away somehow, cant seem to rac via blood; like they vanished.... Pop and Elated Squawk, as well as a few other birds form that flock show up, Gale charmisas his way into explaining what's going on. Buut Gale gets a little too excited over recognising his dad, makes mentions of it, aaand.... oh yeah, he doesn't look or act his age, at all, and Pop is now veeerry suspisious of him, claiming that he's a changling interloper! oops!

By Aurem's suggestion, Gale looks into an Admin position and shadows Sanguine (His flock's Crimson) for a few days to learn about the red-feathered cloak position. The job may be a tad boring, but also right up his alley. It offered his own apartment, (With his very own kitchen! and bookshelf!), a bit more freedom in his routines, quite the raise, and access to more information. Knowing that his flock will be pretty dissapoitned, he accepts. This is just an opportunity he can't miss. besides, Aurem claims it's the next step, and she's a hell of a lot smarter than he is. Aurem also tasks Gale with leanring about angel's, also for her plans.

A Notable Bird

the mission invovling angel and the rattler situation. starts with the dream. Secret of magic,m angels, atsral projecting, wolf...

Angel of Frost and Flames

He did it!!

Symphony

Welcome to the group, buddy!

You'll Never See it Coming

Joker! Gale was the MVP of this mess, man. Helped save Cresc, used a wish to save Wolf... really he just spammed wishes.

An Ally in Need

failed Tonto rescue mission... his dream...

Cameo

Gale's side of things. asked to bring Joker captives back to their plane. "Whyu is it that whenever I meet eith you people theres some sort of disaster going on?" He liked tghe kid Feather Rite, he and Cinder... the info he gains from them the next day. Cresc gives him the knife, he fails to play it cool. Wolf shows him the wizards tower, "Im prouid to call you an apprentice" Gale again fails to play it cool.

Departure

Gale's role in wolf's tower, the clark situation, astral plane bag of holding weapon.

Cameo II: Electric Boogaloo

Gale is busy with a mess at the airy; something about a dead amdin tracking bloodlines wriong, dleglings that may or may not be inbred, and FRost gave him a timelimit to prove it before they justr get killed. So of course thats when he gets called to rescue the others from a dragon- oh, no, nvm they difured it out. But a day later he has to swoop in and save Cresc and Resolve. He demands Wolf give him an explanation later.

Epilogue: Rubato

Oof I gotta review and separate this stuff better. thats what I get for doing all of it in one night.

Mystery at the Aerie

Fearna fiasco. Frost was a little harsh, but eventually admits that he was in the right. Turns out there was a small Fearna cult in the aerie smuggling out weapons, goods, and the like.

Planeswalking Inquisitor

Planes walking investigation. Turns out unnatural planes walkers get garbage planes. Joker's intervention. Gets eerie information from Joker, and eventually decides she's got a good point. Has that conversation with Snow and himself through Joker. Also Resolve is there for a moment.

Encounter

Decides to just go ahead and bail, but intend son taking Joker's warnings to heart. Got impatient.
And ran into *something.* Out for, what was it, a month?

Some time passes, regains bearings. Then the gang (Aurem, Frost, Joker, Cinder, Resolve) try to purposefully encounter this thing. And it fucks them up.
When the GODS have to make saving throws- and aren't guaranteed to pass- you know you're in trouble.
Gale got a look at it though. Looked like Angel, but made of pancakes?? It wants Gale to make more angels. does some funky shit, then drops him back with the others.

And Gale is afflifted by.. some sort of colorless mana. It takes lefit efforts from his dieties tio get rid of this shit. Frost is actually really worried.
Eventually he wakes up. Theres still remnants of this shit though. Spines along his back. And, temporary afflictions...

Madness

Trying to get back to work, and the gradual shitstorm... His obsession with Maroon, failing to not make angels, his breakdown that Frost ended up fixing,

Gale accidentally names this thing after failing a wisdom save. He speaks casually to a passing orc about this being in the blind eternities. He calls it Chronomonix. And this... becomes a problem.

Failure is Not an Option

They quarantine the aeries. Have to kill a bunch of people. They try literally everything to help Gale.

Gale strands Maroon. To him, it's what he had to do to keep his people safe.

He speaks with Joker, who takes him to see Aurem. "Good luck."

Loyal to the Very End

Loyal to the very end. A willing creature, or as willing as he can manage in this state. He understands. Its okay. Even still, unafraid. Confirmed his reincarnate status at the very end. Really showed how this thing broke him...

Alternative

Going into Gale's epilogue, I knew that he was likely to encounter something scary in the blind eternities. I, however, didn't expect him to outright die.

If he habd;r died. synehtesia, angel interactions.

Relationships

Aurem, Angel, and Frost

Gale, of course, holds them both of them in high regard and with the expected respect of a loyal follower, but due to his upbringing, he also views them both a bit more like... well, people and less like the gods that they are, though this is more so aimed at Angel. He has zero fear of either of them and easily speaks his mind to them both. This is a purposeful tactic on Aurem's part and... kind of just what Angel does when she's given the chance. Aurem has tried threats and fear tactics on Songbird; 3 outta 4 ain't bad, I suppose. She tried indifference and moderate normalcy with Crescendo; it worked great. Until it didn't. And now, she's just being blunt with Gale, friendly even, offering whatever he might want to know. No secrets, no threats; just knowledge and transparency and a fuck ton of magic.

Angel really was one of the only things that was consistent in his life.

Crescendo, Wolf, and Resolve

His feelings about his mother are a little complicated.

Wolf is someone he respects. It meant a lot to him when Wolf basically called Gale his apprentice.

Resolve is the member of the main trio that he knows the least about, and is the least concerned over.

Cinder-Garl and Joker

info

Misc. Folks at the Aerie

Rattler: Gale's flock leader a friend. Gale kinda co-lead with Rattler due tot he bird's relative inexperience, or at the very least lacking confidence. At that point in his life, Gale likley considered Rattler one of the birds he was closest to.

Sanguine: A changling male that takes trhe form of an orc.. with boobs. for some reason. lacks creativity, but doesn't want tot alk about it. fairly relaxed, taught Gale hisa dmin stuff and itnroduced him to cooking. Frequently cooks eggs, which is funny to me. Poking around in his dreams revealed some odd things. Like, uh, maybe he was tyortured by aurem or soemthing? Gale's crimson.

His Admins; Maroon, ...: Called him Boss since he kept using their nicknames.

Trivia

  • Gale has permission to access the locked cabinet of music in the library. Nice.
  • Can't wink. What a shame.
  • Gale received his name during a mock fight at the end of his coming-of-age trials, wherein he won the fight for his squad by abusing flight and some impressively harsh winds.
  • Literally, three pages into his session and only hours into him even existing, he accidentally killed an orc because they were an asshole and I wanted to try out his nifty spells. Oops. Luckily he didn't get in trouble because who cares about orcs and he's charismatic.
  • Gale is listed as having no parents in the aerie's files. His age is also altered.
  • Aurem: "He's not an idiot, but... he's an idiot." She also called him arrogant but loyal, and complained that he talks way too much.
  • Is actually nice to fledglings. His own childhood wasn't so far away, and he knows how rough it can be.
  • Gale had every right to blame others for his lot in life, and yet, he didn't. He was burdened with expectations, given seemingly impossible tasks, rushed through his childhood, and often received minimal praise from those he desired it most from. It's a wonder that he ended up like he did, rather than being resentful, or attention seeking, or obsessive... He recognized the complexity of his situation, and chose to learn from other's faults instead of repeat them.
  • Gale isn't afraid of Aurem, or any of the deities. Angel finds this very interesting.
  • Gale was afraid of having her personality altered through his link to Frost. But instead of changing, he changed Frost. Now that's impressive.

Gale's Impact on the Golden Pantheon, Synesthesia, and The Nine

Frost, mostly. His admins influence frosts aerie. any future angels they attempt to 'make' will be going off of Gale's notes. He proved that its possible to lead through respect rather than fear. Aurem commisioning a goddamned song from Resolve, dude. They LIKED this bird.

They have a hard limit on planes walking now. Even if you somehow could survive more than the 5-6 jumps... 8 is the limit. and if you must, 9, but neve rmore.

Memento

It is realized that he saved Maroon. "Oh, Gale..." and had a copy of his personal file stashed in a book. Marked ominously with the note of 'Are you sure you want to read this?' Frost assured it's perfectly safe, and meant to be read in a less harsh tone. A copy is made. Gale's notes on angels are saved for later use.

Quotes and Excerpts

"You don't punish the fledgling for pickin' the lock, you reward 'em and get better locks!"

-Gale used the line a lot. It references aerie life, and how things should be done. Birds are taught to pick locks, and so when one succeeds in doing so, even to *your* lock, they shouldn't be punished for doing what they were taught to do.

As always, without a hint of fear, Gale spoke. "I'm sorry for this whole mess... And, thanks, for believing in me, for giving me this chance. My life wasn't very long but I... I appreciated every moment I got." And received a final response from Aurem, "And thank you, Gale. For being an exceptional bird."

-The revised final exchange between Gale and Aurem.

Author's notes

  • Quite literally whipped this guy up in roughly an hour or so.
  • From the very odd dream he received I figured he was Coo reincarnated! I'm hyped man, that's so cool! So far he hasn't had too much weird soul stuff go on though. Heh, he is his own grandfather?
  • I like to imagine that during Climactic Resolution, he was just hanging out in the ethereal plane, snacking on some ethereal popcorn watching it all go down. Sir comes up and is like, "Er, can I be important again? Maybe get back into the plot?" To which Gale replies, "Yeah, me too, man." and offers some of his popcorn.
Or Gale requesting to get back into the plot and receiving form Aurem a simple, "Are you an Angel yet?" "...No..." Then Aurem just half-heartedly shoos him away as he grumbles about Wolf's notes making no goddamned sense.
  • Inquisitor Howling Gale is on the case! Joker is a mystery indeed, but my Angel pretending to be a detective has as good a shot as any to uncover more info! I need to doodle him in a stereotypical detective get up now. Is he a good detective? Not really. But he's good enough at everything else that he can make do.
  • He's got some family issues for sure and I absolutely blame Crescendo for it. Her lack of giving a shit is surely to blame for Gale's mild attention and praise seeking ways. Just give your son some recognition, sheesh Crescendo.
  • Every time Gale gets involved with the main trio there just happens to be some major plot going on, or some near disaster that occurs. It's so bad that even the characters are aware of it.
  • Gale is a good bird. Straight up. That is one damn good bird. He actually rolled very well given the odds; he could have easily hurt or killed someone, left the aeries, or just- made things worse. But he didn't. He held on for as long as he could, battling this sort of eldritch madness. It's, really sad too though. Loosing his sense of self, having his personality corrupted... that was his greatest fear. And it was realized. But not through Frost, or his angel status. But through this thing. Through just barley failing a very important roll.
  • I cried when he died. When he walked into that room and was told he wouldn't be walking out. But, by that point, I was.. kind of accepting of it, unlike when Snow died. There was no sudden turn, or denial. It was better for Gale to be killed before loosing himself completely, before becoming a danger to those he cares about, those working under him, and those he willingly serves.
  • "Was I a good bird?" "No. I'm told that you were the best." That meme. Is perfect. Considering it's Aurem who did it, as a death god.
  • Apparently, when doing Gale's dialogue he gained an increasingly southern accent. make of that what you will.
  • Roleplaying Gale's gradual descent into madness was... kind of heartbreaking, but also fascinating. My DM said I did a good job of it. His little quirk of talking to himself became full on arguments, and having to deal with random rolls on a madness chart was... interesting. It almost felt like I was right there alongside the other characters, powerless to do anything to help Gale, just an onlooker to his gradual decline.
