Shuu initially seems like a person who doesn't take anything seriously, often dismissing their duties to play games or do whatever they please. However, they try their hardest, and try to be useful in whatever way they can. They care deeply about those around them, and worry frequently about the safety of the sword warriors under their command. Due to their past, they struggle with depression and anxiety, and tend to cry easily and get worked up.
Shuu Koushiro was summoned using the vessel of an unnamed wakizashi sword as an experiment by the Time Government. They showed promise like any other sword warrior on the battlefield, and were assigned with a group of others to fight against the History Retrograde Army. Shuu had no memories of their past, and took to making new ones with their new comrades, taking a liking to their team, which became like a family to them.
Their team was strong enough to continue to excel in their battles, but during one of their particularly long missions, Shuu made a vital error. They made a choice to change history in order to save one of their comrades, and everything began to fall apart. They were nearly able to escape until the Kebiishi showed up, and the comrade Shuu attempted to save was killed before them.
Upon their return, Shuu was scolded and reprimanded, and each of their teammates turned against them, leaving them scared and alone. They were pulled from their team and remained stationed in a Government facility, doing nothing, until the Time Government chose to give them a second chance. They showed exemplary spiritual power, and had what it took to become a saniwa. However, they weren't to be allowed on their own, and were assigned alongside another saniwa canidate to take over a new citadel. Shuu was assigned alongside Aki Fukumaru, and chose their name, Shuu Koushiro, to signify a new part of their life.
Despite their excitement to be put on a new assignment, Shuu was terrified, and upon initially meeting Aki, they were a sniveling mess, and Aki mistook them for someone else, expecting someone more put together to be their new partner. The two didn't get along right away, with Aki remaining emotionally distant, but as they spent more time together and worked together, the two of them became inseperable. Shuu also became close with their starter sword, Kashuu Kiyomitsu, who is frequently tasked to be their retainer.
The two of them became close when Shuu took on the role of comforting Murakumo when they were in the process of summoning Samidare Gou, who they struggled to retrieve the vessel for. Eventually, the two confessed their feelings toward one another, and began to date.
When Shuu was appointed, they chose Kashuu Kiyomitsu as their starter, and Aki chose Hachisuka Kotetsu. Shuu was rather frightened of Hachisuka, and spent a lot more time around Kiyomitsu, who was their first friend and confidant at the citadel before Shuu and Aki became closer. The two maintain a close relationship, being equally as close as Aki and Shuu are.
